CD Drive Troubles
« on: August 03, 2008, 02:55:05 PM »
Self-explanitory title... I need help with my CD/DVD Rom drive. It does not show up as a program I can run in My Computer, or on the desktop, or anywhere else, and whenever I insert a CD, it does not automatically run like it used to (in the good old days).

Even me and my computer nerdyness could not figure it out, so any suggestions, or do I need a whole new drive? I'm hopelessly confused...

Is it...unplugged? Uninstalled in the Device Manager? Could just be a messed up cable...could be a bad drive...could be your motherboard...if it is the drive, you might as well just get a DL DVD burner instead, since they're like $10 now.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA

No, it just doesn't show up in My Computer like it should. And I went to control panel/system/hardware tab and clicked on Device Manager, and it shows up with a little exclamation point thing on it, so there is obviously an error with it, but I really have no idea what it going on with it. So after I found it in Device Manager, I right-clicked on it, and went to Properties, and this is the message displayed in the "device status" box:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

And I went through the whole Troubleshoot thing and it didn't do ****, so now I'm getting pissed because I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to spend 70 bucks on a whole new CD system thing.

70 bucks? Is it gold plated?

****, after I broke the drive tray on mine (up to three now, its so easy to destroy one that way) I only had to pay $50 for a new one, and that was about a year ago, and it burns dual-layer DVDs.
