SNK Arcade Vol 1
« on: July 25, 2008, 03:52:20 PM »
Good news guys, while the Wii version is 2 months late and is 29.99 which sure as hell beats paying $9 per game on the VC (PS2 version is 14.99 PSP version is 29.99), the Wii version came up as the best version according to reviews. All the emulation issues, slowdown and horrendous loading times are gone. If you picky about controllers well you can use Wii remote, Wii remote + Nunchuk, Classic Controller and Gamecube controllers.

The wonderful thing about this is that the 16 NeoGeo games that are on the disc are almost all the NeoGeo games on the Virtual Console so not only can you save some monies but you can also save valuable block space.
Heres the list of the games on the disc:
# Art of Fighting
# Baseball Stars 2
# Burning Fight
# Fatal Fury
# KOF 94
# King of the Monsters
# Last Resort
# Magician Lord
# Metal Slug
# Neo Turf Masters
# Samurai Shodown
# Sengoku
# Shock Troopers
# Super Sidekicks 3
# Top Hunter
# World Heroes

I also heard that this game was the best version. I plan on picking this at the end of the month.

Just to put this in perspective. If you were to buy ALL those games it would cost you.

 $144  or 14,400 Wii points

vs.

$30 (which is a saving of 79% )

And if you bought all the original NEO GAMES at retail cost at that time, that would be uhhhhhhh assuming each game cost $200 [some games cost more but to keep it simple lets just use 200 ) and 16 games that would be

$3,200  (which is a saving of 99.991% )

I am glad we agree. My first experience with the Neo Geo was the VC so could you let me know what the games are about?
Thank you for insightful revelation Vega.

I'm sorry--but most of these games are pretty bad.  (Except for Baseball Stars 2, which GP already gifted to me.)  Everything I've read about these games says don't bother with them because their (many) sequels are much improved.

Besides, all I really want is Metal Slug collection with classic controller support--is it really that hard?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

So for $30 you can get 16 Neo Geo games, with great emulation and Classic Controller support.  This is one of the best deals I can ever think of.  Espiecally when Neo Geo games costed over $200 back in the day and they're now $9 on the Virtual Console.

Plus it's nice to see they fixed the mistakes of the PS2 version.  Shows that SNK really put some effort into this game.

Well Vudu this is volume 1, SNK is obviously volume 2. SNK always whores out their classic games even worse than capcom or square-enix does. Wii is also getting a Samurai Showdown Anthology, KOF: The Orochi saga for starters so I highly doubt SNK won't stop releasing compilations for Wii or other 2D games on Nintendo systems.

Here is a short description of each game for whoever needed it
General Features

    * ART OF FIGHTING - The first game in SNK's second fighting-game franchise, set in the same universe as Fatal Fury.
    * BASEBALL STARS 2 - The sequel to SNK's popular baseball arcade game.
    * BURNING FIGHT - New York detectives battle organized crime in this fighter.
    * FATAL FURY - First released in 1991, Fatal Fury introduced the two-plane fighting system.
    * KING OF FIGHTERS '94 - The first game in the popular King of Fighters series.
    * KING OF THE MONSTERS - In King of the Monsters, giant monsters fight for power in epic battles.
    * LAST RESORT - A challenging futuristic shooter.
    * MAGICIAN LORD - Players help the wizard Elta save his homeworld in this platformer.
    * METAL SLUG - Known for its humor and fast- moving gameplay, this run-and-gun side-scroller was the first in the popular series.
    * NEO TURF MASTERS - A golf game which debuted on the Neo Geo Pocket Color in 1999.
    * SAMURAI SHODOWN - Set in the 18th century, Samurai Shodown features bladed-weapon combat and an international cast of characters.
    * SENGOKU - In Sengoku, players face off against undead feudal Japanese armies.
    * SHOCK TROOPERS - In this run-and-gun adventure, players save a scientist and his granddaughter from the Bloody Scorpions.
    * SUPER SIDEKICKS 3 - A soccer game featuring teams from all over the world.
    * TOP HUNTER - Bounty hunters protect colonists from space pirates in this futuristic action game.
    * WORLD HEROES - This classic fighter pits players against historical figures in a tournament enabled by time travel.

Nope, those things suck. I'll happily continue to use my Wavebirds instead (and **** Geometry Wars for not supporting them!).

I have the following:

2 Wiimotes
2 Nunchucks
2 classic controllers
2 nyko perfect shots guns
4 gamecube controllers (Wavebird, Wireless 3rd party, 3rd party corded, 1st party corded)

and soon to be 2 Wii Motion Plus (1 with Wii Sports Resort to be cheap)

FYI. I'm not buying this since 1) I don't have money and 2) I am not into fighters 3) Those sports game don't interest me. I have 2 beat em ups already.
