"Hey! I beat this! Those last stages are hard. I stocked up completely on lives, energy tanks, and mystery tanks and took care of the problem."

Someone explain to me what these "e tanks" and "extra lives" are for.
What kind of "Mega Man" would use them?

This isn't Super Costco Wholesale Backup Energy Man for WiiWare.

This points to me that Mega Man 9 developers couldn’t really get the arcade elements all correct. However the loop began, I do not know:

Solution: Shop (spike shoes, energy tanks, etc.) was created to fix the inherent problems in the gameplay  -> Problem: Players could run around with infinite energy tanks  -> Solution: Instant kill stages -> Problem: Stages feel empty and require more than one shot enemies whose purpose is to knock player into hole/spikes  ->  Solution: Few enemies with extroardinary power, including minibosses  -> Problem: Without the right weapon or perfect playing, it is practically impossible to get through such enemies.  -> Solution: Shop where people can buy infinite energy tanks  ->  And so on and on as it loops.

If you want my guess the store was added because they did it in all recent Megaman games and found it a neat place to throw "easter eggs" like no-helmet mode and Roll's outfit changes into, then they added more useful items and those turned the game balance south.

Who cares about the store? I haven't even used it (didn't discover it till recently either) because I feel it kills the point of the game. If I can't beat it on my own merits, I'd rather not beat it.

Malstrom makes it out like you NEED to use the store... You don't, ever. All it does is make the game a bit more accessible to a few more people. Shouldn't he be happy about that?

I agree with you Mr.Jack. My plan was to go through the game without the items but I couldn't beat it without them. This is how it works for me when I play games. I have  to learn the ends and outs of the game till I have no problem with the game.I typically start on the lowest dificulty and inch my way up.

I think that's not his main complaint, it's that they compensate for the easy access to energy tanks by plastering spikes everywhere instead of regular, damaging hazards (I'm not sure that's the fault of the shop though, they did that in MMX8 too). Can't say I've lost many lives to health depletion outside of miniboss/boss fights and I haven't bought any E tanks (one M tank but haven't used it yet).

The problem is there are only two E Tanks (that I can think of offhand) that can be found in the game outside of the store (one of which is far more trouble than it's worth).  And honestly, they're the only thing worth purchasing in the store except for maybe an M tank for use in Wily 4.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Nothing in this post is true!

There's an E tank in plug man stage, and at least two that I remember in the Wily stages (plus an M tank). All of them are very, very easy to get.

And some of the stuff in the store is worth purchasing in a normal/speed run. Especially the spike protection. The spike protection is all. Buy the spike protection. Buy it now!

Update for anyone who cares;

attempted to take on wilys fortress a second time (first serious attempt) and got to that third boss.. man he was a pain, i had to use two freaking etanks on him cuz i couldnt memorize the pattern of those blobs..

Then cam wily.. first form wasnt bad, could do that with no hits, but that second form killed me every time. blah!

I found the second form easy you just have to lure him to one side and then run to the other when he tries to smash you. You can user your mega buster on the first and second forms.

When you see him moving over you go as far right as you can then rush back to the left this will give you room to dodge the flamethrower.:)If you are cramped you won't be able to dodge.
Also when you see him ready to fire go to the left side of the room and jump towards wily at the last possible second.

I got this game 3 hours ago, can't put it down!

It's SO tough, so cool, so old school.

This is the kind of game that made us (me) a gamer.

I felt the same way Toruresu when I got it it was tough but there was something that kept me coming back.

Currently I am trying to figure out the right order for Protoman since he starts with the jet and spring. The order may change.

Great Toruresu!
When I first played I started with Splash women then I tried the rest to get a feel for the levels. After that I went with Galaxy man then tried out the weapon on other bosses to see if it worked.
In addition to protoman there is this special stage.I don't have it but many forum members here do so feel free to ask them about it.
You know I need to play it now.:)

Tomorrow is another day I guess.
