Goosebumps
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:00:25 PM »
Back when I was 9-14 I  was a RABID fan of the Goosebumps series, I have all 64 books of the original series. Anyway, a couple of years ago I started keeping them off my shelf, and storing them in an air tight plastic bin..that way they wouldn't further deteriorate. No i feel slightly remorseful, because i can see my finger prints on like every page. I hadn't read them in some years, and its gotten to the extent i barely remember the plot lines. Sop, reading them is quite entertaining. I was checking out wikipedia and it looks liek their going to make a REAL movie on Goosebumps, totally disregarding those shiitty TV shows and TV movies. They haven't found a writer apparently, which interests me. I think if the right budget was dedicated they could make a really good horror movie. Anybody else liked Goosebump books, or am I just old?

Hell yes! I too have all of the original books and read all of them. RL Stine also wrote another series of books (can't think of the name right now) but they were awesome too. I'm interested to see what they do with the IP because the books IIRC had some strong imagery and some solid story lines.

Years ago some Disney Magazine held a contest to write an ending to a short Goosebumps story. If you won you got to help write the end of a real Goosebumps book. Anyway, I sent in my story and I actually got second place. I wound up getting some Goosebumps swag none of which I have any longer, and if I do it is at my parents house in some box somewhere.

Old?  I was twelve when those first started being published and by that time I was already reading Stephen King.  Goosebumps is for babies.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

old, as in goosebumps was a fad..and slightly older and slightly younger people never got into it. I remember the goosebumps is for baby feedback, but luckily i was well into the series before that hit. Its amazing that goosebumps never made it to movie form. If anyone has ever read anything in script form, they are fairly similar length.

I never liked Goosbumps, I was more of an Are You Afraid of the Dark kinda person. As for books, yeah I was reading Stephen King also back then. But I kinda got bored with those even.

Well when it comes to the TV show, Are You Afraid of the Dark beats Goosebumps hands down.  I was a huge fan of the books though, and while I think a good movie could potentially be made with the IP, I don't think it will ever happen.

Man, AYAotD was awesome, especially the into....sooooo creeepy.

I was a huge fan of this book series back in the day... collected up to the mid-40's before I finally stopped. Was always amazed at the speed at which R.L. Stine churned these books out.

I always wanted to kick the kid with the glasses from Are You Afraid's ass, even when I was like 10. In fact, I wanted to kick all of their asses. I still always watched though. The one where the kids get stuck in the mall is one of the worst things to ever appear on TV.
