Perhaps SD drive performance could be improved with a firmware update?

As I always point out, there's nothing wrong with the reader itself. I loaded a save the other day and it took about one second from start until the message popped up saying it was done, and mp3s in Excite Trucks start playing immediately. The reason it takes so long with VC games is the encryption process. A firmware update could change that, the problem is Nintendo wouldn't want to lose the anti-piracy layer the encryption provides.
I'm fairly sure that the Wii doesn't have this but, I wish Nintendo would have done Hardware based encryption/decryption.  Its much faster and would allow for streaming of encrypted content without using as many resources.

The thought of being able to use my iPod for game content sounds very intriguing, too.  Gah... why is it so hard for Nintendo to just give it to us?  Sheesh.
I like Nintendo more than j00!

I don't like the idea of online storage entirely because it gives Nintendo too much control over what we've purchased.  They shut down the server and *poof* there goes the VC games you paid for and they'll just use some bullsh!t "you pay for a licence to use it" crap that companies use these days.  Companies WANT to be able to "breaK" their product from afar and make you buy a new one.  That's the whole point of this "licence to use" stuff.  Having an album on CD or a movie on DVD or a game on a disc is no good because if I take care of the copy I own I don't have to pay them for it every again.  Hell Nintendo loses business from me because I still have SNES cartridges.  I haven't bought any GBA re-releases of SNES games and have only bought one VC game.  That's no good for them.  They want me to buy those games over again.

At least now one can keep all their VC games on SD cards and hang on to physical copies of the game.

You mean directly above your post, or the exact same thing he's posted about a dozen times before?  ;)
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

or they could even use their iPod as a Wii HD and the Wii to charge the batteries on the thing, heh.

it already does that, so atleast nintendo allows you to do that! and people think they dont care about what the consumer wants ;)

Who says adding online storage would be at the expense of the existing SD card storage?  Not that I particularly like the idea, as it's only slightly more convenient than just redownloading from the shop channel. :/

I think it'd be funny if they add support for any USB memory devices, but it was the exact same kind of support that the SD drive has, and therefore misses the point entirely.

They may think that'd be nice, but my guess is that the majority of their rerelease/VC sales come from people like me who never had an SNES (and had a very limited set of NES games), and thus missed out on most of this the first time.

Nintendo is the type of company that offers 1L buckets and when told that 4L buckets are required offers 2L buckets.

Haha. So true. But ummm... in the best way?

No, I think VC was made for people like me who will buy a game I have three copies of already.

I figure something with such a high data density and high transfer rate combined with Nintendo's hatred of discs points to them thinking of using this for future game media, especially on handhelds.
