Just got back from the movie, Jon Favreau is one of the best directors in Hollywood today.

Yeah, real surprised to see Jon Favreau as the director... but he did a GREAT job.

I saw the movie this weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was hoping for an Ed Norton cameo. but Samuel Jackson works just as well. It took a while for me to realize it was Jeff Bridges (I didn't know much about the film before going in). I still have doubts over the following Hulk film. But if this leads to an Avengers film, then there's no excuse for not having a Justice League movie.

The film surprised by way of how many laughs it got. I was not expecting some of those moments.

The Batman trailer in front of Iron Man was terrific. I hadn't seen anything before hand. I'm looking forward to it.

well The Incredible Hulk will have a cameo from a certain iron clad super hero from what i've read on the interwebz, so there ya go. I guess that'll tie more into the Avengers film.

They didnt play the batman trailer before the movie when i saw it, the best looking trailer was for "Don't Mess With Zohan" the new Adam Sandler flick, which actually looks pretty funny. I'm getting sick of the Batman trailer only becuase I've seen it so many times and just want to see the damn film already.

As for the laughs in Iron Man, one of my favorite moments was in the private jet, and all the interactions with Tony's robots were awesome.

Well that's in Warner's court. They have been trying to make a Wonder Woman movie for awhile, but the dismal performance of Catwoman seems to have scared them away from doing another female superhero flick. So we have Batman and Superman movies... and that's it. There is no way you can make a Justice League movie and expect to develop a whole cast of never before seen heroes with different origins as to their powers (X-Men can get away with this as they are all mutants, but even then the first only had five main figures).

Marvel has gotten into film making with the Avengers as a goal, so we will probably see that pay off soon. Beyond Hulk later this year, we already have Iron Man 2 dated for 2010 along with Thor for that same year, and then 2011 will have Captain America and later Avengers that same year. This also creates a problem for DC, as if they try to lead in with the Justice League movie too soon it will be seen as a "me too!" maneuver by movie goers after the Avengers.

I think it is funny when studios get "ansy" about making a movie because a widely criticized and SUCKY movie came before it. Maybe, just maybe people didn't see a movie like Catwoman because it was horrible and has nothing to do with a female superhero.

I'm all for all of these.  The problem with a Justice League movie is that even the cartoons have to introduce all the extras.  I might now about everyone in the Justice League but, most people don't.  Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and even the Flash but, once you get out of there its a lot hairy.

It wasn't just Catwoman, likely, although that was their own effort to expand beyond DC heroes not named Batman or Superman. Elektra also did really bad at the box office.

The problem, though, is that in both of these cases those movies were pretty terrible... but studios rarely like to connect the dots like that, and therefore assume that it's simply a marketplace that is uninterested in heroine helmed films instead.

This is just me but, I don't think I could watch a super-hero movie based on a team or group like the Justice League or The Avengers. I feel like it takes away from what makes a super hero special. I think Ian might of said something similiar to this in another thread, but the idea of having multiple people performing extraordinary feats is pretty lame compared to ONE guy/girl that can do amazing things like fly or sling webs and everyone else is just normal. Obviously the villans can have some sort of power too but i think you get my point. I thought the Fantastic Four sucked, but its not JUST because of the team of super-heroes.. it just plain sucked lol.

X-Men would be the exception to how i feel however. I enjoyed all those movies. The fact that their are regular humans and than mutants is the big difference here. You don't have to go into complicated origin stories  or any thing like that, nothing cheesy either. Also they didn't over do it with each character using their powers which kept the movie from being a lame special effects fest.

I concur, and Marvel seems to be aware of this, which is why they are making a movie of each member of the Avengers before the movie itself so they don't have to try to juggle developing a ton of heroes at once.

Also they didn't over do it with each character using their powers which kept the movie from being a lame special effects fest.

I don't know. I think this would depend on who the adversary is. I could really enjoy a epic and flashy battle, but the villain has to be able to give the team a run for their money. For example, I would love to see someone like Ultron taking on the Avengers on the big screen:

However, I would prefer they avoid doing a super hero team versus a super villain team type of scenario... as that would be hard to juggle with pacing, plus I have always been a larger fan of the omnipotent villain style of arcs.

He is similar to Apocalypse in that he feels his own identity is superior to the other (in this case organic life). So he tries to eradicate that which is different, much like Apocalypse is focused on destroying humankind for his "survival of the fittest" philosophy. What makes Ultron interesting, though, is that he was actually created by Hank Pym of the Avengers to work with them, even giving the creature a similar thought process to Pym's, but to his surprise he went rogue and has been one of the team's biggest and constant threats as he has become quite powerful (although currently he's more involved with the space side of things).

I loved Elektra, but Catwoman was awful. I think Avengers is likely because Marvel is on top of things right now and even one or two flops here and there isn't going to slow down their momentum one bit.

So far out of the Marvel movies I have seen, Daredevil is the only one I flat out hated. Everything else was either pretty good, or at least watchable, ok I lied I had issues with Spider-Man 3, but those were things Marvel/Sony couldn't help.

Well, after the banner weekend Iron Man enjoyed, they dated the Avengers for 2011 (same year as Captain America)... so unless something happens, it's a lock to occur down the road.

Number of times I've watched Iron Man in theatres: Two.

Number of times I've watched Emma (starring Gwyneth Paltrow) since seeing Iron Man: Four.

Number of Marvel Comics I own: Zero.

...yeah... I'm sorta bored while trying to concentrate on HW right now.

Saw this. Thought it wasn't bad. Seemed like the pacing was bad, started out slow. Had  a some corning dialog too. Couple of  nitpicks:

-  That shrapnel bomb should have made a bigger explosion rather than a barely grenade sized explosion.
-  Gweneth at the end presses that button that blows up the "roof" well the whole building blows up, even out the door.  But some how she's right next to Robert 30 seconds later.

Overall good movie. 8/10.  Betcha it'll be one of those though, that will be worse out of the theater.

But who thinks a bomb the size of three footballs is going to barely blow up into the size of a grenade explosion, in the future?  It is still a valid nitpick.
