Iron Man (The Movie)
« on: May 03, 2008, 02:51:43 PM »
Did anyone else see it?

I saw it opening night and it was great. It played on the biggest screen in the theatre and was just an awesome experience. Now i'll admit, I never read the comics and I didn't know much about any of the characters so my impressions aren't that of an Iron Man fan, so maybe someone else will have different thoughts on the film. As far as a superhero story/action film, it was really good. The action was sweet, the effects were damn good and not once did i feel like i was watching blatantly obvious CGI. The film had some really funny moments, almost all from Robert Downey Jr's great performance.

I recommend seeing it, if only for an awesome cameo appearance from a certain little white box we're all familiar with. Maybe it was just me but it was just funny to see a all of Tony Starks high-tech stuff littering his mansion and then a Wii sitting under his huge tv towards the end of the film. But seriously though, I recommend seeing it if you want to watch a cool flick with some friends.

(Minor spoilers ahead, no details though)

Also if you're a big comic fan you might want to pay special attention to what a certain character has to say right before the movies finale. I didn't get where the gasp from all the nerds came from since I wasn't familiar with the phrase uttered but it hints at a special scene after the credits roll that you might want to stick around for.

There is a special scene after the credits roll, and it shouldn't be spoiler tagged as anyone seeing the movie HAS to see it. No exceptions.

Anyway, the movie was fantastic. Super-hero movies seem to just be getting better and better.

Good movie. Not spectacular, but very well done. Funny. Great to see that Robert Downey Jr. has made a triumphant comeback. Love Gwyneth Paltrow.

The movie was so much fun and well made. Helped wash the bad taste out of my mouth by watching the so-called best movies of last year.

Well my car broke down yesterday so I didn't get to go see it, had to find an um, alternative method, so I didn't get the full experience. I liked it a LOT better than I had anticipated having been afraid Robert Downey JR would ruin the character, but he actually pulled it off a lot better than I had expected. Makes me want to go Monday and watch it legitimately as to see this extra scene being discussed. That and give Marvel their much deserved money for a job well done.

Afraid of Robert Downey Jr.? I honestly think he is perfect for the role, and I probably wouldn't have seen it without his inclusion. He's a fantastic actor and he can relate so well to Stark's character. Also yeah I enjoyed the film.

Then you guys must be happy to hear he's signed up for 2 sequels as well as a cameo in another upcoming Marvel Movie (which might also tie in to the special scene found at the end of Iron Man)

I hope they have Gyneth Paltrow and Terence Howard locked in too!

Also, this was a real great role for Jeff Bridges. He's a great Obadiah Stane.

Yeah the movie was fantastic, and the ending credit scene has to be one of the greatest ever done (certainly more satisfying then the one with X-Men Last Stand).

lol i was one of the 4 people in the audience who got the Shield reference,
and right before i was wondering what happened to the Nick Fury role Sam Jackson was going to play.

I was never really into the comics, but i used to collect the toys, and trading cards so i had a basic idea of character. Like Rhodes is War Machine.

I got to re-watch it today properly and with the scene, and it is about time Marvel starts linking their movies together like the comics. Elektra showing up in Daredevil was not good enough.

Yeah and I wasn't the only one, aside from my 1 die hard Iron Man fan friend everyone I know was worried he would ruin the movie, or at least hurt it some. Maybe easy to play a millionaire as he *is* one but an action star, he hasn't been good at any movie I have seen. Plus not being a fan of the actor much I really didn't care to see him in the movie. But after watching it he came through and I was really surprised.

But I am one of those people who will refuse to watch a movie if an actor I despise is in it, not that I despise Robert Downey JR, he was in one of my all time favorite movies.

What was that movie he was in where he plays a kid who's posessed by the dead husband of the mom of the girl he's going out with?

Anyways, I really wasn't excited by the "secret" after the credits. Some secrets bits after credits seal off the ending, some are just awesome, but this one was... BAH. It was just TWO LINES, NO ACTING, 8 SECONDS LONG, and NOT AT ALL A WAY TO CAP OFF A MOVIE. rant over.

Oh and did anyone else notice how similar Iron Man's Hud was similar to Samus's. It also makes you realize a Metroid Movies is possible. Since Samus and Iron Man's suit are not that different.

Their suits may be similar, but Samus generally stars in her game by her self. Aside from Fusion, Metroid gams don't have dialogue or many other characters.

fusion and prime 3, im saying it would be visually done, but the script would be hard however.

In a movie you can add characters, but don't make them geeky. I want a metroid made with the tone of 28 days later, the feel of a kubrik movie, and the look of iron man/aliens.

I've done alot of writing, mostly comedy/horror in the last couple months. I'd like to tackle a Zelda and Metroid script. Myself, I would really be concerned about the end product. It can't be some video game to movie p.o.s., it has to be a great movie in its own right, even a classic. It has to make people think at the end. It has to visually be something new, something that will get copied repeatedly. I'm against cramming(shoving everything into one movie), the movies have to be written with sequals in mind. 1to 3.  In fact if i were to make a Meroid movie Samus probably would appear in the middle of the movie. No exposition, at least in the first movie. Origins could be handled in the second movie.

I don't think a Metroid movie would be that hard to make, as long as you didn't directly relate it to a particular game. However, I think a lot of the potential "good ideas" would be seen as Aliens rip-offs. So yeah, you could go the marine deployment route, or you could take it in a direction where the Metroid take over a populated (preferably human) world and Metroid swoops in to save the day, which would allow for development of the population before and survivors after... although that's a plotline that doesn't really match up with any of the games. Either way, there is stuff to work with there as long as one isn't opposed to a movie that's a stark departure from what the games represent. (Ridley would be a must in any circumstance)

I'm surprised everyones comments are all about the one scene at the end, and nothing about the actual movie itself.

On a Metroid Movie, how can we trust Nintendo to get even that right? I can see it now, they get Hilary Duff to play Samus. Ridley would be played by Dustin Hoffman and would be a down on his luck salesman trying to take over the world with magic "Metroid" bubblegum. The action/special effects would be Spy Kids quality at best. And it would have to be semi "educational" as well as completely liberal feminist influenced. It would shoot for a PG rating because PG-13 is too "grown up" by Hollywood standards for a movie based on a Nintendo game. Oh and the B-52's would be in charge of the soundtrack. As lame as that sounds I think it might work.

With the new baby and the lost of the one work mate I know I could get to go with me at lunch this movie is going to be hard for me to see this movie.

On a Metroid Movie they should just explore the part you never see in the game.  Regular bounty hunting.

How about the movie starts off on a space station. There are scientists and their examining specimens that they caught from a near by planet. All hell breaks loose as the specimens break out. Everyone on the vessel dies. A space federation envoy with a group of mercenaries is sent to investigate the space station, and one of them doesn't talk. Everyone is referred to by a designation number.

thats what i got before, its a combination of Super Metroid and Aliens. I can imagine it being goofy, i'll work out the kinks.

IF the movie is called Metroid it should be about METROIDS and that needs to be clear and consistant. Otherwise people will think Samus *is* Metroid like they already do and the movie would be totally confusing to them.

BTW my official review for the movie for my blog is going up tonight. If you have a myspace the link is in my sig. If not, the link is still in my sig. Anyone who wants to post a counter review or whatever feel free to do so.

A Metroid Movie would be better focused on Samus growing up among the Chozo. The movie wouldn't have to be entirely about that, but it'd be nice. To go on what Perm was saying earlier and having Samus come in the middle of the movie, having the movie be about the space marines would actually work. They could be at war with the Metroids and the movie could go from there with various flashbacks.
