Go Nintendo and NeoGAF have broken the news on the rumored next game on the Mortal Kombat franchise, and features none other than Batman. Yes, Batman, with the Joker, Catwoman, the Batmobile, Robin, the Justice League, the works.

People are already claiming this is a very late Aprils Fools joke, but 1up said that the next Mortal Kombat game would be so out there people would think its a joke.

So if this is true, 2008 shall be known as the year fighters featured unexpected combatants from completely different universes...

What I find very ironic is that Batman would never kill anyone, even if that person happens to be a major *sshole.

Capamerica told me once that Batman was on the verge of killing the Joker because of how angry he was, but the comic ends with the two of them laughing maniacally.

It would be weird seeing him rip someone's head off...

That was The Killing Joke, and it makes more sense in the context of the story.

I'm guessing this is going to be a T rated game with considerably less gore.

A MK game without blood and gore? Why, that means the game would be just another generic fighter with bad mechanics! 8O .

I'm more surprised we're up to Mortal Kombat 8 now.  I stopped even paying attention after the fifth one.  I think I heard of something to do with a sixth game but I literally had no idea until now that a seventh game existed.

The series just hasn't had any appeal since they went 3D with the fourth one.  Mortal Kombat was never that good of a fighting game.  It was playable and fun enough to hold your interest but a lot of the appeal was in the style.  The digitalized sprites and gorey violence really made the game stand out.  Switching to polygons made it look generic and that just exposed how meh it really was.

But then has Midway made ANYTHING worth a sh!t that didn't appear first in the arcades?

I will come to your house and (insert bloody threat here) of anyone who talks trash on the great and powerful Mortal Kombat. MK is *the* best fighting game series ever. If this is true, 8 will be the first MK game ever I do not play. It was never about the fighting, it was always about the story people.

Going 3D did not kill the series as some would have you believe. They did a really fantastic job with Deadly Alliance with all the different fighting styles and all the extras. Deception didn't improve on DA at all but it was still decent. Armageddon was the worst of the 3D games in that it took away from what was built up but added every character ever as playable.

I will defend the true MK to the death. But a crossover game is just stupid. IT would be ok if it was say a Midway vs DC kinda like Capcom vs Marvel but DC doesn't have enough cool bad ass characters to work for this type of game.

Capamerica told me once that Batman was on the verge of killing the Joker because of how angry he was, but the comic ends with the two of them laughing maniacally.

That actually wasn't the story.  If he was referencing "The Killing Joke" the story was actually not about Batman about to kill Batman, but the realization that Batman and Joker on a set path for one of them to kill each other, either he would accidentally kill the Joker, or the Joker would finally succeed in killing Batman.

The story arc had Ms. Gordon (Bat Girl) getting shot and abused by Joker, and the Joker trying to push Commissioner Gordon insane...that the Joker believed it took just one bad day to make someone go insane.

The story was brilliant, and in the end, Gordon tells the Batman to bring him in by the books, that we have to show the Joker their way works.  To honor that request Batman offers to personally work with the joker to rehabiliate him into society.  In which case the Joker says he can't he has gone too far, and tells a joke that perfectly describes Batman and the Jokers relationship ending in laughter.

It is one of the finest Batman stories ever written...but Batman was not about to kill the Joker.

On to the comment at hand.  You know I would LOVE a great DC fighting game, that took the normal JLA members not the Supermans and such and pit them against eachother.

I do not believe they fit into the Mortal Kombat universe at all...but perhaps this story is getting mixed up and the Mortal Kombat team is actually making a DC fighter and that is all.  Let's hope that is what it means.

Personally a great lineup for a DC fighter would be:

Batman
Black Canary
Cat Woman
Wild Cat
Green Arrow
Robin
Joker
Deathstroke/Slade
Huntress
Karate Kid

ect.

Didn't Batman kill the Joker in The Dark Night comic? Also I believe he killed the joker in "Return fo the Joker".

The movies don't count because writers of movies often times don't realize that you can resolve the issue without killing.  They like to kill the villian so that it is a clean ending.  But if I recall the Batman never actually killed any of the people in the movies, he just couldn't save them from their own demise.

As for the comics, I don't think Batman has killed the Joker...yet.  There are several Else Worlds stories where Batman has killed the joker, but I am not aware of the Batman being killed in the actual DC universe.

Ok, so I am hogging this thread...so what.

We were talking about the Star Wars characters being overpowering in the Soul Caliber game...but the Justice League would be even worse.

If the heavy weights of the Justice League are in the game...then really no Mortal Kombat Character should be able to win.  Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, The Green Martian, Power Girl, Super Girl, Wonder Woman

All these characters are out of the league of 90% of the Marvel Super Heroes...and probably 99% of the Mortal Kombat characters.

Seems pretty one sided to me.

Kotaku thinks the same.

Didn't Batman kill the Joker in The Dark Night comic?

Sorta.  He almost kills him but doesn't quite.  Joker teases him about not having the guts to do it and then finishes the job himself.

I also forgot to say in my last post that this crossover is dumb as sh!t.

MK has three elder gods in their ranks, who all would slaughter the likes of Batman, Superman, etc. I agree the idea is stupid and sorta out of nowhere, but it would be refreshing to mix things up for the MK games for once.

Second Tier Comics meet Second Tier Fighting Games

Excuse me, I have Marvel vs. Capcom to play.

If you are not a fan of DC comics fine, but calling them a second tier company is downright silly, ignorant even! Its like calling Nintendo a second tier gaming company.

I don't read a lot of comics, but DC Comics is one of the most popular and influential comic book companies ever. It houses a lot of iconic and influential heroes in existence, including the mighty Superman and Batman, which pretty much created a hero archetype many have tried to imitate but very few come close.

Not to mention that DC comics has been around for a very long time, so calling them a second tier company is silly to say the least.

Troll Hard 2: Troll harder

Ironically, many websites have been mastering the art of trolling through various "special features" and 'top number lists".

Its ironic that the website administrators, whose one of their purposes is to prevent this type of behavior, are trolling harder than the actual angry fanboys ( lets be honest, many editors in chiefs, editors, reviewers, staff members and even game developers are really angry fanboys with a nice title and more money :) ).
