Super Dodge Ball DS
« on: March 18, 2008, 11:02:30 AM »
Apparently there's a new Super Dodge Ball game out in Japan... http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9g-49-en-70-2fps.html People here have been talking about how they liked some Super Dodgeball game in the past and I think it's this series they were talking about?

Yep, stated my love for the game in this thread:

It's currently the only DS game I'm really looking forward to at the moment.

As a big fan of the prior two (the NES and the GBA one), I can't wait for more dodgeball action.
I read a while back free-for-all was making a come back, so that's awesome.
Is there any online with this thing?

My old sister had a huge crush on Ben Stiller so she made us watch Dodgeball when it first came out, ever since I just can't bring myself to have anything to do with the sport ever again. That combined with I just sold my DS means no sale from me.

**** yeah. What are the chances this'll still be sitting in shops come Julyish? I'm creating a list of all the DS games I need to buy while in the states and this'll be on top, next to ASH.

No. NOOOOO! WHY!?

Would they just port the old NES game with better graphics already? I would gladly take that at this point.

I have a feeling that some reviewers think this game is archaic if you watch some videos of this game it's like river city random except in a dodgeball setting which is a good thing!

The game is alot of fun and I wouldn't let the reviews dissuade you if you can handle the pretty basic graphical style.

Really? So how does it compare to the NES title? That's really all I care about. The GBA one was fun for awhile, but didn't capture the magic of the early entires for me. I was hoping this would step up to the plate and achieve that.

I have a feeling that the poor reviews are based on the "primitive" look of the game. It's pretty hard to mess up the core gameplay of Super Dodgeball. Especially since it had been in development for so long.

I'll be picking it up this weekend and can't wait for the original to hit the Wii Virtual Console.  ;D

I wish I could agree, and some reviews are awful for this game I will attest, however... some are familiar with the older titles and they have compared it to that, unfavorably so. Oh well, love the franchise enough that I guess I will probably look to pick it up at some point.

The GBA game played just like the original.

I disagree. For me, the controls felt a lot more intuitive and smooth on the NES offering, and on a game like Dodgeball that is key.

The GBA one wasn't bad, far from it, but for me I will always opt to play the NES one over it. However, to be fair, it was a significant improvement over the odd direction that was taken for the Neo Geo version. I'm also glad to see that the "schoolyard" brawl mode from the NES game is back for the DS one too... always loved that way of playing.

Anyway, GoldenPhoenix how does this one stack up to the GBA one then?
