I don't think pessimism is warranted in this case.
The well advertised games will be bought, the unknown games will not.
qft; this is what happens in the book, movie, television, food, political, religious, and internet world. In the case of games, they are so expensive to make that "unknown" games don't get finished or released. The greatest example of an "unknown" game is fricken Psychonauts. WiiWare is a step in the right direction, as it brings cheaper/smaller games and less popular genres to the market in a more visible way.
It is part of the Internet revolution. The "free (read: corporate) will" of democracy has failed; the true democracy of the Internet is a leveler. But even in the Internet world, IGN is popular, so....
