On thing I would like to know is why it is not possible to directly link to a specific video (we got a 403 error). Why do we have to pass through the general page of the video?

It's a bandwidth-saving measure to prevent leeching, web search bots, as well as page masking/hijacking (i have run into this already). It also forces visitors to notice other videos that are available.
