Works with cartridges from all regions and standard NES peripherals.

Blaze Go Retro With Pocket Fami

Fire International today announced the release of the new BLAZE POCKET FAMI console throughout Europe and the United States

The BLAZE POCKET FAMI is a new handheld and is fully compatible with all NES and FAMICOM titles from Europe, Japan and USA. Consumers will now have access to the range of NES titles and the recent Retro revival will make classics such as the original Mario Bros. games, Final Fantasy, Zelda and other well known NES title available to old and new gamers alike.

The retail price of the BLAZE POCKET FAMI in the United States will be $69.99. For mail order sales the price will be $74.99 including postage and packaging.

The compact design features a 2.5" TFT screen, d-pad and standard and rapid-fire button configurations. The BLAZE POCKET FAMI also boasts the ability to function as the original console and connect to a TV with the included cable, with the option of connecting 2 NES compatible Joypads into the console.

In Europe, the BLAZE POCKET FAMI includes a 72 pin adaptor to allow the bigger NES cartridges to connect as well as the smaller Japanese Cartridges, and is fully compatible with PAL and NTSC titles.

Managing Director of Fire International Ltd, Jason Cooper said, "Most of today's console gamers were brought up on the NES console, with its range of classic, playable titles. Gamers will now be able to experience the classic gameplay again and experience them in a whole new way through the BLAZE POCKET FAMI's handheld design. NES games are widely available through many retro games sites and eBay. The POCKET FAMI gives retro-gamers a taste of gameplay from the 80's"

Contact Fire International for further details on the BLAZE POCKET FAMI. The BLAZE POCKET FAMI is available now from www.xploder.net. Worldwide shipping can be arranged.

Wait, whats the legality of a thing like this?  Is it gonna be widely available?  I want one bad.  It freaking hooks up to a tv too.  My NES has been long since kaput.

For those that can't read the face buttons the top two are BB and AA.  I'm assuming that's turbo fire.

If it were up to me, I'd have put the B closest to the screen, with the A down and right of it.

Crappy diagrams:

Setup:
--AA--
BB--A-
--B---

Preferred setup:
--BB--
B---AA
--A---

It just seems more natural.

well do u like the GBA setup? It's the same way. (minus the BB AA. Your way is the N64 setup, but the GBA setup is comfortable too.

Amazingly old news. It's just that a new company has picked them up for distribution. There was also the GBA shaped one a while back.

It's notally not legal, and most likley needs an adapter to play 72 pin NES carts, unless it somehow has both pinset readers.

Why wouldn't it be legal?  You're using hardware emulation to play physical carts.. there's nothing illegal about it.  Compaq won that case 22 years ago...

Damn I could use one of those.  I didn't have an NES as a kid (still mad at my parents for that) and I've never bought myself a used one because it's so hard to find one that works worth a sh!t.

If Nintendo released something like this that had both NES and SNES compatibility (or one seperate unit for each system) they would probably have a pretty hot seller on their hands.  But then they couldn't port those old games to the GBA and THAT'S obviously no good.  Maybe instead they could make such a device (with N64 compatibility as well) as an add-on for the Revolution.  Having every game for every Nintendo console playable on one system would be a pretty good selling point.

Somebody needs to review this thing.

So wait...does this play US games without any kind of adapter...I don't really know what the 72-pin thing is about.

I think it needs the adapter because it was designed for famicom cartridges because I believe the US carts are 72-pins.

Yeah, companies should realize their products are pointless when there are illegal ways to get the same thing...
