Last glimmer of hope: Updates through WiiConnect24
« on: February 01, 2008, 07:56:39 PM »
Fans are beginning to get desperate. They have yet to accept the fact that there are only 35 characters and that some of them are clones. Some of us don't like it either and still criticize Sakurai for it, but at least we moved on from hoping and speculating. Other fans, however, refuse to accept that this is it.

Right now, the last glimmer of hope for them is updates through WiiConnect24. They believe that since the game allows you to receive news and updates about the game maybe, just maybe, Nintendo will go ahead and make Brawl the first Wii game to receive updates after it was released. They believe that Nintendo can add new characters, ATs, stages and songs through WiiConnect24.

All I have to say...NO!!!!!!! STOP LOOKING FOR FALSE HOPE! THE GAME HAS 35 CHARACTERS! IT WILL BE THAT WAY TILL SSB 4 IS RELEASE ON WII 2 OR THE U OR WHATEVER NINTENDO WANTS TO CALL ITS NEXT CONSOLE! DEAL THE HELL WITH IT! ITS 35!!!!!! AND EVERYONE HAS A LANDMASTER TANK!!!!

*Ahem

Now that that's out of the way, the reason I believe this will never happen is because Nintendo HATES the idea of micro transactions and updates in games. They believe that if you pay 50 bucks for a game, you buy everything since day one. If the game has everything you wanted, fine. If not, too bad, wait for the sequel.

Yes, they did say that some games would fully support WiiConnect24 and have "updates' but not to the same extend as some 360 and PS3 games.

The other issue with updates is that Nintendo has yet to solve their storage problem. They have been very lazy on this regard, and I doubt an SD card or the internal memory will be big enough to hold data like characters and stages.

So, no. We shouldn't expect this sort of stuff from Nintendo, and really, this is a lame attempt at false hope.

The game is done, people. As disappointing as the final roster is this is what we are getting. You either accept it and play it or just buy something else. But please, stop thinking that there will be a miracle at the end of the day.

I am still hoping Sakurai falls off a tall building while choking on a piece of cake guaranteeing a new director. Is that too much to hope for?

I think he can be persuaded to resign through...gentler means.

We should just mail him boxes and boxes of plastic landmaster toys.

It's just here, it's only like 4-5 people, and they are all whiners.

They'd whine if the game got delayed any more, they'd whine if it had 100 unique characters, they'd whine if it did or didn't have wi-fi capability...

I was actually talking about the people over at Smash Boards, who have made several threads about possible updates through WiiConnect24.

NWR is actually one of the more calmer places right now.

Oh boy...

Before this thread goes to hell, I just want to say that this thread is NOT about the people who have issues with the roster nor about the people who are fine with it.

This is about the people that are still in denial and are now coming up with ideas as to how everything will turn out well in the end instead of moving on.

Those are the people I have a beef with.

Let's not turn this into a pro roster/against roster crap fest as I know it will lead to nowhere.

If it gets bad, I'll ask a mod to lock it.

No more replies from me! Personally in regards to your topic I don't hold an opinion either way in regards to the Wiiconnect24, if it happens great, if not oh well I'm not surprised, this IS the company that has yet to release a HDD! Lol.

We will never see WiiConnect24 downloadable material from Nintendo, not because of hardware space or anything like that, but because Ninty officials have stated on many occasions that they don't like the idea of shipping unfinished games...Which makes sense...I'd rather them get the game out and start working on something new...

They just suck at downloadable content.  Even advertising through their own console.

Hope there's another "Event Match 51" deal.  That'd be the only thing I'd play over and over again until I got sick of the game, as with Melee.  The more times I beat it without losing stock, using a variety of characters other than Jigglypuff, the smarter the AI got.  Match 51 became unreasonably hard, and the lvl9 AI were much more coordinated and agressive than lvl9 AI you'd encounter on a fresh save file.

I wonder if Brawl does the same thing.  Probably not.  It's a casual game full of clones, afterall.

Did it ever become confirmed that the computers "learned" in Melee?  I always thought that wound up being a myth.

Well there will be custom stage downloads through WiiConnect24, and that's enough for me. This game will have infinite replayability, so I don't see a reason to complain.

He's not a Nintendo employee, and he's treating this game like it's the last Smash Bros ever. I don't think he has to die for us to assume that the next Smash Bros will be directed by someone else.

1.  New director announced for SSB4...
2.  Anti-Sakurai brigade hype the game up to high-heaven, talking about how much better the game will be...
3.  Game sucks...
4.  Anti-Sakurai brigade starts complaining even MORE...
5.  Myself and many others simultaneously *face-palm*...
6.  Vibrations from simultaneous face-palms sends Earth off its axis, plunging it into the sun...
7.  Meanwhile, in another plane of reality, Raisaku has directed the next game in the popular Mediocre Tap Dance Twins series: Mediocre Tap Dance Twins Bonanza...

The cycle continues... =(

Oh yeah, that was my other point. It's absurd to imagine that Sakurai was the weak link in this chain. He's clearly the source of the majority of the brilliance that is Smash Bros. A Smash Bros game directed by someone else is not guaranteed to be better, and will almost certainly be worse.

Not if they build off what Sakurai created. Nintendo has a ton of talented people and I doubt they'd give the series to anything BUT a good director.

I certainly hope you're joking. If I has a new Smash Bros. game, and the only happiness I could find with it was playing that bit of insanity over and over again, I'd throw myself off a bridge.

Though one of those small Dutch bridges, I wouldn't want to hurt myself.

Damn with the title I thought there was some terrible announcement, and now I've spoiled the number of characters which honestly is perfectly fine, I can't believe anyone is complaining about it, specially after the crapload of content the game has, I thought this was like Luigi was out of the game or something.

Bah hum bug! There will be more characters to unlock, think about it. No AC character but there is still a stage proving he in the game! There must be more! There is more! Why else is there a "how to unlock" on the site unless there is a secret, website only, unlockable characters! *drowns in denial*

I can't believe how crazy everyone is getting over this.  If 35 characters isn't enough for you, especially when 2 of those characters has 2 distict play styles, and another has 3 play styles, effectively bringing the total to 40, you're crazy.

I take it back, you're probably not crazy- the internet brings out extremes in people.  These comments are exaggerated because exaggeration is encouraged on the internet- it gets a response.

I hope you all still buy the game.  I want to play online with you while not voice-chatting.

I could have tolerated all and I mean all of this if two things had happened.  They are little things:

-  Wolf had a different FS
-  Ganondorf weren't a clone

If those two things hadn't happened I would entirely get over the other things. But I also don't quite care as much as these guys do.

No character in the series has had his moves radically changed from sequel to sequel. Luigi is still a clone, no ones bitching about that.

Well Luigi has never been that different from Mario in the first place. Ganondorf on the other hand is a clone of an F-zero character.
