The OFFICIAL 2008 Wii Rumor Thread!!!

The Old Thread broke, so here is a New one for 2008

So lets get this started.

2) If the Sonic RPG sells well on the DS, Bioware is interested in making a full Nintendo character RPG and have already laid out initial outlines about the game with Nintendo.  Seems like a foregone conclusion.  How this intertwines with Square Enix makes me wonder about the validity of this one, however.  Unless Square is involved as well.  Then again, a Mario rpg is just the Mario universe, whereas this proposed game is every Nintendo character ever created.

3) Timesplitters 4 is still coming, though it may not be Wii exclusive anymore.  Apparently Microsoft is in hot pursuit of the property and wants to publish it.  However, it's unknown what Free Radical is planning.  *I thought Free Radical had already signed on with a publisher, but I have no proof of it.*  The problem for MS is the game has been built to make the most out of the Wii hardware to this point.

4) Now my personal rumor.  EA has discussed making Madden more stylized for the Wii.  Think the same realistic gameplay, but with cell shaded characters, forgoing realistic players for caricatures.  No, not big headed little people, more like highly stylized, almost cartoon, recreations of all the players.  Apparently, this would help out with more fluid motion/animation as well.  In the end, they believe this would be the best of both worlds for the Wii-great stylized graphics rooted in realistic sports simulation.  I'm thinking '09 for this idea, however as 08 is getting ramped up currently.

Factor 5's new exclusive Wii game is infact Nintendo's very own Kid Icarus
Quote

Nintendo and ex-Nintendo developer Factor 5 might have temporarily broken up, giving the developer just enough time to develop and release its dragon-themed shooter exclusively on Sony's PlayStation 3, but last week, news hit the Internet that the two companies are once again working together. According to reports last week, Factor 5 is developing an exclusive game for Nintendo's latest home console, Wii.

Kombo has learned from a credible source that Wii game is in fact a new installment in Nintendo's cherished Kid Icarus franchise. According to sources, Factor 5's Kid Icarus title is being developed ground-up for Wii. It will not use one of the developer's previous GameCube graphics engines. Unfortunately, at this time, no other details have been provided to us for publish.

Do you believe it? I don't and if someone other than Nintendo is handling the rebirth of Kid Icarus I would prefer the old rumor of Capcom bringing it back. But if it is true, atleast F5 is making a brand newe engine just for the Wii, which should lead to some good graphics and hopefully some licensing out to other 3rd party developers.

Space Channel 5 Coming to Wii!?
Quote

And to include licensed music from Michael Jackson.

Prepare for suckage if Factor 5 is handling Kid Icarus! Ok maybe not, but I don't have high hopes for it if Factor 5 is handling it. Would be great if Capcom did get a shot at Kid Icarus though!

I actually have some new rumors to report from my source.  I tried to find my post in the old rumors thread, because I'm pretty sure just about every game he told me about has been confirmed, though not all for the Wii....yet.   I couldn't find it however.  But just trust me, this kid has some info.

Anyway, there are three fairly major rumors this go around.

1) The old zapper games, Wild Gunmen, Hogans Alley, Gumshoe ect, aren't being released through the VC, but instead through WiiWare to be used with the new Nintendo Zapper or Wiimote with some updates to the games.  Also, in the same sentence, he told me Zombies Ate My Neighbors is getting the Wii Ware treatment, complete with online co-op and some new goodies.  Apparently they're using small teams of developers to update, add new levels or due some other maintenance on the games.  He didn't make clear whether Lucas Arts is working on Zombies, or perhaps just farmed it out.

I don't care if TimeSplitters 4 is Wii exclusive or not as long as they put real effort into the Wii version, as the rumor suggests is happening. Though I wonder why Microsoft cares that much about the game considering every other FPS is already available for the 360. And I'm all for Super Smash Quest.

EDIT: And as long as the gameplay stays the same, if they want to try that with Madden it's okay with me, though I assume you mean 09 and 10 instead of 08 and 09, as 08 was released last August.

I think Retro has earned the right to do whatever they want...Unless they WANT to do a Kid Icarus game, of course, then that'd be fine... ='D

IF Factor 5 is handling a new Kid Icarus game, it will not suck.

I still haven't played Lair so I don't even know if I agree with all the talk, but I do know that that game had a TON of baggage with Sixaxis stuff.  While Wii is also a motion control system, I don't believe that the powers that be would allow a mediocre relaunch of such a great franchise.  They will let Factor 5 do what makes the best game, not what makes the most use of the Wii remote.

I remember you mentioning this one in the las rumor thread. I hope N does do this cause these games just wouldn't work unaltered on the VC. All of these rumors have been added to the original post BTW.

I've never played this game, but people are always talking good it about it. I hope its not the same case as with Kid Icarus where people have all these fond memories of it, but then when people play the game today it turns out that there really is nothing too special about it.

I know wee were all hoping that SE would have already hoped on this [Mushroom Kingdom Hearts] but if they snooze they lose. If the Sonic RPG turns out pretty good then I hope Bioware does get a crack at it. Atleast then they would have better source material  to work with and more varied characters and worlds.

3) Timesplitters 4 is still coming, though it may not be Wii exclusive anymore. Apparently Microsoft is in hot pursuit of the property and wants to publish it.
I hope some sort of exclusivity remains , but the game must be advertised seperately from the 360 version should there be one. Besided MS already has every FPS out there except for R:FoM, Killzone, and TimeSplitters. Do they really have to try for anymore? You don't want to oversaturate the genre on the system.

It would be nice if they gave you the option to switch it up, but it still won't get me to buy Madden, so I hope the cell shading isn't just trying to make it appeal to Nintendo gamers.

I wouldn't mind at all factor 5 doing more flying games, I love them, they make amazing graphics and honestly please don't kill me there's not a lot of gameplay breakthorughs in the kid icarus franchise to begin with so I have really no worries factor 5 will destroy the series, since there's nothing to destroy. There's actually much to gain if Nintendo handles factor 5 the way they did Retro when developing Metroid Prime.

Yeah, F5 could take some of that Miyamoto magic and fix Lair for the PS3 with a new special re-release that fixes all the gameplay and motion control issues.
Sony will have Nintendo and KI to thank for it.

Well, Matt at IGN keeps talking about some old Nintendo franchise making a return in a new form this year, so maybe there's something to this Kid Icarus rumor.  I'm sure they're making it, I'm just not sure it'll be F5.  I'm fine with that if it is.

Bringing back Kid Icarus is basically just creating an entirely new franchise. Whatever team inherits the series would be building almost everything from scratch. You have 3 characters, one has wings and shoots arrows. Sakurai had to cheat and give him swords in Brawl. There just isn't much to build off of. And if any team gets it, I'd put money on the Galaxy team before Factor 5 or Retro.

I would think Nintendo would want Square-Enix to make a Nintendo universe RPG before anyone else. Cross-over fans would sh*t their pants.

I hope whoever takes up the challenge knows what they are doing and are able to pull it off right. This game absolutely must be done right, because the entire franchise depends on it at this point. A crappy game with crappy sales is all it would take to put this franchise in the can for a long time (if not permanently). So yeah, let's really hope and pray this is done right.

bah, zelda spinoff? I hope is not true, at least Kid Icarus has the saving grace of being somewhat "fresh". I would buy the game anyway but I prefer Retro to work in something new, make the kind of game Nintendo doesn't make but that also  isn't another GTA/doom Clone/boring japanese RPG.

Grandia 4? Lunar 3? Final Fantasy VII-remake? Chrono 3? Xenosaga 4? Kingdom Hearts 3?

Unless its a brand new series or new info on an already announced game (i.e. KH on DS), I think those are some pretty good guesses if the RPG is really that big of a deal.... which it most likely isn't.
