Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Flash Demo Now Playable
« on: January 19, 2008, 01:29:44 PM »
The demo is a recreation of the beginning of the first case from the upcoming legal-adventure DS game.

 Ace Attorney fans rejoice! Capcom has released the promised online flash demo for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, which you can directly access here.

In the free demo, you get to play through the start of the first case to be featured in the upcoming Nintendo DS title. Traditionally, the first case in an Ace Attorney game serves as a tutorial to help ease gamers into the role of a defense attorney, using evidence, testimony, and logic to win in court. But while the demo is suitable for newcomers, experienced players will still be surprised at some of the twists and turns that are in store for them if they can’t wait for the full release.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney will be the fourth game in the series and features a new cast of characters, as opposed to the first three games which revolved around the ongoing trials of character Phoenix Wright. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is also the first Ace Attorney game specifically designed for the DS, since the previous games all came out on the Nintendo Game Boy Advance in Japan initially.

The full DS game is currently slated for a release on February 19, so the free demo arrives a month in advance of the real thing.

Correction: the story originally stated that the demo included the complete first case when it only included the starting portion of it. This has since been corrected.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

It's not the entire first case.  It ends after you've presented one piece of evidence.  Still pretty neat, though.

Ooh! Thanks Shammack. I've made the correction. I didn't discover it initially because I chickened out of playing the demo at one point, afraid of spoilers, lol.

Fun fact: This translation isn't very good, isn't the one in the final game, and in fact as acquired by Capcom through a fan site

That's good to know. The translation seemed a little off... but I think it's real neat that Capcom is interacting with its fans this way too! My brother goes to a Phoenix Wright fansite and he's heavily into it and everything. I can't finish the third game because he won't let me borrow it, he's using it to help him research the fanfic he's writing.

So that's why. (I had played the demo before - in Japanese, with a fan translation open in another window. And when I was playing this version, I was thinking "why aren't there any new jokes?")
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

It still does a good job of introducing what the game is about and feels like.
