Gold has a different meaning in video games/software, and most people who don't explicitly track release information don't know it, though it's becoming more commonly used for Nintendo software, it's still a rarer term, mostly used for PC titles, and has drifted to video games in the last three or four years, I'd say. Confusing the idea behind "gold" isn't something to laugh about, and it hardly is a symbol of general ignorance, either.
