Well I was just curious if this were true or not. Nintendojo.com has a story up about it. Click here to read it. Basically the problem is is that the link cable supposedly sets on top of the shoulder buttons on the SP. So what's the deal?

Once again nintendojo.com proves they are idiots who will post anything if it gets attention. By the way thanks MrShag. Nintendojo really had me worried there.

import "sarcasm.h"

there is definately a design error.  the cable plugs in upside-down and you don't see the cool nintendo logo.  just the crap on the bottom!

somebody really dropped the ball on that one.

LOL.

Since playing the sarcasm game, there seems to have a bigger flaw in the GBA SP desing. The flip screen doesn't even allow you to see the crap on the back of the link cable.

Shame on Nintendo.

Just checked it myself and this is an absolutely silly claim.  The connection doesn't even overlap the shoulder buttons.  There's no way I can conceive of any problems.

No, it *IS* true, at least with the Mad Catz cable, which i own.

Sucks, seeing as how i was hoping to play with Tingle tonight. Another reason to stay with first party...

not really a flaw...  but it would be nice to be able to have the SP plugged in while playing with tingle.  i just put in about 8 hours (with one short break)

This is only a problem with THIRD PARTY cables.  Nintendo's cable is fine.  We got the same e-mail that Nintendojo got, and I responded to the person to get an official Nintendo cable.

I guess it wasn't really nintendojo's fault then. Well, actually it is since they should have gotten off their ass and checked it out for them selfs before posting it on their front page and scaring the hell out of everyone. Any way after looking at MrShag's pic I had a feeling the problem was with third party stuff.

Wow, I didn't realizne how teeny-tiny the shoulder buttons were.

Nintendojo updated the article to note that Nintendo's link cable works fine.  (Just thought I'd let ya'll know, ya hear?)

it was time for a change.

ok.  it's been bugging me that i can't have my SP externally powered while using the Gamecube link cable.  but i had an incredible thought last night.  most worm lights that you can buy have a pass through on them.  but is it enough of a spacer between the SP and the bulky gamecube cable to get the AC adapter plugged in?  i'd try it, but i let my brother borrow my sp for the weekend.  dam him and his roadtrip.

and if that doesn't work, i'm bound and determined to find a way to have them both plugged in.

"sarcasm.h"? Oh... I get it... It has to do with C++ or another programming language... kind of obscure... not everybody studies C++

Yes...it works fine, but it is a little uncomfortable...

I guess it's "Let's Bash Nintendojo Because It Makes Us Look Cool" night. ::rolls eyes::

FROM NINTENDOJO:

Quote

Update: Several more reader have writen in to let us know that the official GCN-GBA link cable works perfectly on the GBA SP without any issues of depressing the shoulder buttons during use. Dojo Reader Kris did not comment on whether or not a 3rd Party cable was used when encountering the problems, but given the numerous responses claiming that the official cable is working properly it's a good wager that this is the case.

I too had problems with a 3rd party link cable (Neko i believe). It wouldn't work with the e-reader so i had to spend another 15 bucks on a 1st party one.

The reason why I was bashing Nintendojo is because they couldn't get off their lazy asses and look into the problem before making a big announcement about how the SP is f#$ked up. It's apparent that planetgamecube.com looked into the probably and simply responded to the person who e-mailed them about it that they needed a first party link cable. They didn't post that the SP was screwed up the instant after they read some anonymous e-mail. Yes, Nintendojo did make an update but it was like two days after their initial announcement. And by the way they didn't even make that update until after several readers e-mailed them to let them know how big of morons they are.

That whole qoute proves my point. They let their readers handle the whole damn thing for them while they did nothing. First a reader tells them the SP is messed up. With out looking into it more they post this info. Then it wasn't till after they were e-mailed that they were wrong that they corrected the post. Real professional huh.

I think it's Java.  In C++ it would be #include "sarcasm.h"

I have one of the aftermarket link cables... I just got a dremel and trimmed the corners so they do not overlap the shoulder buttons while still locking into the GBA-SP.  Works great and modded a friends cable the same way.

Gibdo: Nintendojo is comparitevly a VERY small fansite when you place it and PGC side by side. I dobut they have the staff or the connections to really check some of them out. I understand they're not perfect angels like PGC, but it really makes you look pretty spiteful if ALL you ever do in reference to Nintendojo is talk about how crappy and lazy they are. If they mean THAT little to you, why waste the effort to comment on them at all?

Still, they have a responsibility to bring accurate news as a website dedicated to bringing Nintendo news to readers.  But everyone makes mistakes, right?  As long as they've corrected it in the end is what counts.
