Hmm... what could it be? More Mario spinoffs? Or is Nintendo trying to farm out Star Fox to someone new because Namco screwed it up so bad?

I know that Nintendo keeps very close watch on 3rd parties handling their franchises, but this seems a bit off.

The site now says:

"UPDATE: A THQ representative has since stated that the filing is a standard Wii developer agreement, suggesting that there is no specific Nintendo character/franchise being licensed."

So looks like a false alarm. Though with Nintendo being so spin-off happy it is frighteningly believable.

Maybe that part of the agreement allows them to use Miis in their games.

Upon rereading the article with a new perspective, the intellectual property in question could simply be Nintendo's code in the devkit.

That's not quite so offensive. Having third party games use the Miis would be a nice touch. I don't even care if the games sucked. I'm opposed to Nintendo characters being used in a shovelware. The Mii is not a real character anyway. It's supposed to be US so having ourselves in a crappy game doesn't matter. A whole bunch of them ask for my name anyway so Ian Sane is already embarassing himself in a sh!tty game anyway.

Why does everyone hate Command? It may not be the best Starfox game but it sure as hell does not deserve to be lumped in with the likes of Assault and Adventure.

Do not give me that "its only considered good because the last two where so bad" crap, its good enough to stand on its own, and at the risk of negating my own argument I will say: at least in my opinion.

On topic: Thank God! For a minute I actually thought that Nintendo had gone insane, in a bad way, and might have actually allowed a company like THQ to use one of their properties, even if it could have been something obscure that no one cares about like Radar Scope or Sky Skipper.

Forcing me to do everything with the touch screen really put a huge damper on the game...They could of at LEAST allowed me to do barrel rolls with a button, because trying to fly and barrel roll at the same time was bloody near-impossible and frustrating... =\

I thought Command was a good game as well. The touch screen controls were pretty good and I had fun playing through the stories (even if they were melodramatic at times).

Well considering how the Star Fox series is almost dead, I'd imagine Nintendo themselves will make the next one to try and revive it. Because I'm sure Nintendo is not happy with how downhill the series has gone.

Star Fox - 2.99 million worlwide
Star Fox 64 - 4.03 million worldwide
Star Fox Adventure - 1.85 million worldwide
Star Fox Assault - Last time I saw anything it was around 500,000 maybe more worldwide
Star Fox Command - This one I have no real idea. I think it did 100,000 it's first month in America and then dropped and in Japan I think it was close to 100,000. No idea about Europe but considering the series was usually most popular in America and then Japan, I'm guessing Europe sales wont add much.

So as you can see the series has gone from a huge sales franchise with Star Fox 64 into a small niche with Command. In order for the series to become popular again something major needs to be done and I'm sure Nintendo knows now that they are the only ones that can do it.

Because if it gets farmed out to one more third party then we can consider the Star Fox series offically dead because it would say Nintendo doesn't even care about the series anymore.
