DS demo channel?

DS demo channel? At least in Japan.

This is good news. Could a full-fledged Wii demo channel be not too far off?

Seems like a logical move to me, however, if it is going to happen we need some firmware updates that allows us to use other means of storage.

DS download channel is very welcome, took them long enough.

Mr.Jack, my thoughts exactly, they will have to do a firmware update where we can use external storage devices and be able to use them directly (or the SD card), however I don't think that is going to happen so soon, Nintendo is very keen on teir piracy protection and the moment they allow us to directly use an external storage device you know there will be people taking advantage of that.

If they're doing all of these new channels and Wii Ware programs, they'll have to incorporate USB storage, or at allow SD storage for channels and whatnot, and have them actually display as an extension, rather than just for transferring crap.

Also, they better allow for Wii to DS connectivity via Virtual Console, just like the GCN and GBA did it with Animal Crossing.

The NES games would be the only things that would get emulated on the DS without a hitch, everything else would probably take too big of a hit to do.

Nintendo could most likely get an SNES emulator working on the DS. The homebrew community has several SNES emulators for the handheld, they don't have anywhere near full compatibility, but Nintendo knows more than anybody else about both the SNES and DS hardware and could have more experienced programmers working full time on it as opposed to a single person working in their free time. TurboGrafx can be and already is emulated by the GBA, so the DS would be no problem. I don't know if anyone's attempted Genesis/Mega Drive emulation, but if the SNES can be done one would think that would also be possible (and what I really want, I really want the Genesis Sonics on the DS).

Bah, I say wait for the DS2 if you want VC on handhelds...

That'll be at least a couple years, possibly more if it maintains its popularity. I don't want to wait that long, but I may be able to as long as a few specific things get ported (Sonic Mega Collection DS. And maybe a Mother 1-2-3 compilation if Lucas gains some popularity due to Brawl).

I want this here, and consider it almost inexcusable that we're a year into the Wii and it doesn't exist yet.

The channel is called Nintendo For All and it's a DS demo channel along with video downloads of DS and Wii games.  So it should be fun for all.

Why does there need to be more storage for this?  The "Channel" could simply put you into a website that streams the DS Download from the internet, through the Wii (never storing it on the Wii) and straight to the DS.  This would prevent people from keeping DS demos for ever... You can only download the one's currently hosted in the special Nintendo site...

Well it would have to store it in the Wii's memory, but that's not a big deal.

But channels like that Pokemon Farm and the Final Fantasy WiiWare game are probably going to take up a TON of space on the Wii's measly 512MB flash.

Yeah, we need external storage (I'm thinking a hard drive that plugs into the USB port, but takes the place of the console stand... that way, it attaches neatly.

Pokemon Farm looks like a good N64 game.  Low textures = small space.

They could release a USB powered HDD that fits rights next to the Wii, and is the same size (as in height/length, not width) and comes with a stand replacement, to hold them both. Of course the left (or top if you're a square) side gets pretty warm, so that may pose a problem.

OR they could release a USB hard drive that is also a stand!

It would have to be some type of flash drive if they did that, or some other proprietary (expensive) drive. I guess they could make it flat, with a stand on top, but it would like kind of silly and wouldn't fit as nicely next to my 360 anymore...
