When you read my posts, what do I sound like in your head??? :S
« on: September 29, 2007, 07:51:59 PM »
What I mean is, do I have a voice? You know, when you read my posts, what do I sound like to you? Do I have a "voice" in your head when you read my posts aloud to yourself?

I must know! Look, I'll even go first. I'll name off a few active posters, and what they sound like when I read one of their posts:

Jonnyboy: well, this doesn't count – he sounds like he sounds on the podcast. In fact, all other staffers who've appeared on the podcast sound like themselves when I read their posts. I'm more interested in people we've never heard in real life.

DISCLAIMER #1: I mean no disrespect through any comparisons that may be made. In general, I hold all of you in high regard! I'm just being honest, and the truth may be endearing, or unsettling, or both!

DISCLAIMER #2: Many times my impressions will take the form of celebrities, or people I've known.

Kairon: how I imagine Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes would sound, if he were our age.
GoldenPhoenix: Tasha Yarr, from Star Trek TNG
Easycure: Keanu Reaves
Ceric: this guy I knew in high school named Henry
Strell: this guy I knew in high school named Noel
wandering: this guy I knew in high school named Stu
Perm: Tom Cruise
Vudu: a calm Harry Potter (we all know HP has a tendency to get worked up)
Infernal: The "Wheel of Fish" gameshow host from UHF
Stevey: this guy I knew in school named Jason
thatguy: Puddy from Seinfeld (just the voice, not so much the personality.)
Bill: a medium-range male voice who enunciates well
Shyguy: Ted Danson

There, see? That wasn't so bad! Now, someone tell me how I sound in their head! I want to know!

Oh, and if you want to know what you sound like (provided I haven't already told you in this list), just ask, and I'll add you to the list.

edit: sorry, I know if it's "someone I knew in school" then it won't make much sense to you... but I can't help how you guys sound, dang it!

I'll do this later, but post now, so it looks like I'm the first one to do this out of everyone else.

You...you don't know what this means to me. It's just so...
I wonder sometimes if people really see me... but you do...
I'm sorry... but that's just the best compliment I've ever been given!

Generally, when I read, I hear my own voice (or a voice that sounds pretty similar.)
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

Easycure: Keanu Reaves

i dont know if i should be offended...?

all posters sound like Me in my head for the first few sentances or two, then depending on how they write i develop a character voice, nothing specific really like the celebrities your mentioned. In the post you wrote in the dvorak thread, i thought of an english accent the second you started to sound like a discover channel special.

With your initial post in th is thread, Decoyman, you sound like a crazy game show host

the one poster i always had a specific 'voice" for in my head was Ty until i saw his pictures on myspace. dissapointing...

Throwing down the gauntlet for a post-podcasting event. I haven't worked out the details aside from "don't post your words, post your voice" but it would certainly make threads like this redundant.

So, Infernal got drunk tonight.

I have a generic "internet-reading" voice that I hear whenever I read your words, or even mine. I struggle to put Karl, TYP, or Jonny's voices to their posts because of the fake voice that I hear subconsciously.

Haha, I've had chats with drunken Ferny and I'm pretty sure he was fine tonight. Random, but fine.

And considering I know a few of the Pietriots outside of their posts, the rest just kind of blur into a generic e-voice.

What I generally do, except for the people here I've heard the voices of (Infernal, Mario, Termin8, etc...), is use whoever or whatever is in their avatar to create a personal voice...Be wary of what you choose... =)

When I read Bill's posts I scream AAARHARG! in my head every now and then.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

So, we have a few cases of "the ubiquitous Internet narrator," a few cases of "me, myself and I" and then some "avatar-inspired voices." Interesting. But Bill, that can't work all the time, can it? I mean, what if I put a picture of a toaster in my avatar?

As for a post-podcast extravaganza, I don't know... I kind of like the mystery. It's sort of like when you read a book, and you give voices/appearances to the characters, and then you see the movie based on the book, and you can't help thinking, "What did they do to so-and-so??"

P.S. – Easycure, you're more "Neo" Keanu Reeves than "Bill & Ted" Keanu Reeves, if that makes you feel better
P.P.S. – Adding more people to first post...

For me it depends on how often someone posts and how much of their personality goes into their posts. People like Bill and Kairon and Mashiro seen to have a more flamboyant flare than uncle bob or anyone else.

I don't seem to associate a voice to an avatar. I'm going along with an 'Internet voice'. Svenen is developing his own voice, but I don't who it sounds like. Even after looking at his pic on his blog.

I don't hear voices. The words float into my mind and manifest themselves, making allowances for implied tone based on the structural composition of the language, as well as the tendencies I have subconsciously noticed of the poster.
"I used to sell furniture for a living. The trouble was, it was my own."

"If your parents never had children, chances are you won't either."
