Basically my opinion, Gharakh.  Matt oz, it's kind of sad if you think that way.  Also kind of illogical, but we'll ignore that fact.

I don't care if the spoiler showed Captain Olimar (or whatever) helping Link fight Andross with a friggin waterpack!  I'm still going to play the game.

Your Lord of the Rings analogy is a moot point, since the movies were based off of an existing and well-known story.

I'm sure the gameplay and story leading up to the end are good, but I'm not going to pay $50 for it.  That's totally ridiculous.  I'd rather wait a few months and pay less for the game.  That seems completely logical to me.

matt oz, I doubt you'll be paying less in a few months. Maybe in a year's time, but only maybe.

Anyway, that's not the point I wanted to make. matt, I think you're putting just a little too much emphasis on this one aspect of the game/movie. Are you completely positive you know exactly what the spoiler means? Like someone else said, there's other stuff around that piece of the story that lead up to it. There are results to that detail that impact the game. I'll say this much, I think a lot of people can say something along these lines. Take A Link to the Past for example, I guess I could say "Screw Nintendo. I already know what happens in the Legend of Zelda. There's a master sword and some other swords, some crystals and Triforces, and a battle with Ganon where I save Hyrule and the princess and evil is once again put away." In fact, that's the story from beginning to end in nearly every incarnation of the Legend.

Trying to be reasonable here, there's still 90% of a game you've yet to play out there. There's a lot of things to discover that you've never discovered before. How many Mario Brother games have you played where you found a detail you were previously unaware of? You haven't. There's not been a Mario game that revealed anything new to the story hardly. That never stopped any of us from buying Mario games. I understand there's a significant difference here since these latest Zelda games have relied on new story details in each incarnation, but I'm stressing the point that we pay $50 for a lot of games with and without crucial story plots and surprises.

My best point is to follow, though. You've already put $15 down and got the bonus disc, right? If you don't pay the other $35, you're giving $15 for the bonus disc essentially. You're going to wait it out and hope to pay how much for this? A discounted $39.99? Wait for it for $20 on ebay? I think you'll be holding your breath on that. The point is that you can get Wind Waker now at the reduced price of $35. It's not getting any cheaper than that probably for quite a while. Like you said, you already bought Master Quest. You may actually spend more overall by waiting. If you're going to think about it as if you paid $15 for the bonus disc, you might as well give $35 for Wind Waker.

Otherwise, I do get how you feel, and by not going on to get Wind Waker, you're neglecting it for the fact of neglecting since you feel it has been spoiled for you. I feel really bad about all of this even though it has not been ruined for me. This will probably go down as the Infamous Nintendo Newsletter and will not be forgotten.

It's just sad.

I hope to hear a response from Nintendo on this at some point just to know what they think.

Quote

I was looking at the Zelda wallpaper I downloaded from Zelda.com and I just noticed something that may be a huge spoiler. It might be the same one from the email or I've just become paranoid. Anyway it's the orange wallpaper if anyone's wondering. It might be a good idea for Rick to check those wallpapers out and see if they're safe too. I'm just not trusting anything from Nintendo anymore.

Once you've seen the second cut scene with Link's sister I think you would have to know sooner or later you'll have to fight him... I would think.

Matt, take a chill pill.  You can complain about knowing everything that happens in the game all you want, but I will be setting sail for unexplored lands, and enjoying the hell out of it.    I will be finding lost treasure, solving new puzzles in new dungeons, fighting giant bosses, learning new songs, and meeting new characters.  I will be enjoying every minute of Link's cel shaded adventure spanning all new territory.

Wehn I am done, I will finally finish Master Quest, even though I know exactly how it ends, then maybe I will play some Eternal Darkness again.  After that, I might just watch Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.

In 2 more years, I will go to see Star Wars Episode III.  I know about 80% of what happens in the movie, simply because there is no other choice about what is to happen.  It's still #1 on my list of movies I must see, even though I know squat about Matrix 2 and 3, or Terminator 3.

Just trying to put it in perspective for ya.

Okay, if you you buy it cheap that's better than not getting it at all.  But I still suggest a sooner than later type thingy.

Matt, I would like to personally thank you for emailing me a text description of the end of the game.  I know that they teach AOL people that this is good practice and all, but I have just blocked every email coming in from AOL from this point forward.  Way to go.

Advice to other members:  DO NOT open any email from this ass-monkey.  Just delete it.

Info:  his email is MattOz85@aol.com, and his IP address at the time of sending was 205.188.157.34.  Looks like he is on dialup AOL Internet Access.

I'm really surprised he would do something like that. I kind of thought he was a bit more sophisticated and mature than that.

Just wonder if you (Grey Ninja) actually went on to read the entire description of the end or not. It doesn't sound like the sort of thing that would work since it's text. People have to actually read to be spoiled in that scenario.

Oh well. More sadness.

Wind Waker is totally freaking awesome. So much fun, and moreover, so much of it is not completion-based, I feel no pressure to focus on the task at hand (unlike OoT where stupid Navi is constantly yelling at me "Hey, that cloud on Death Mountain looks strange! We should go there!" ) Or something like that.

Hehe...  I've been trying to explore the Great Sea for two days now, but those darned quests keep on getting in the way.  I always need more items or abilities.

As for the email, he posted it in big blue letters, and I am a fast reader.  I read the first line before I realized what it was, then I promptly closed the email, and that was that.  The first line was a description of events that occur at the end of the game, and that's what I am assuming the other lines are about.  I am not that anxious to find out though.  I really have no idea if he was telling the truth or not, but frankly, I don't care.  He shouldn't be sending that crap to me.

Luckily the guy is an idiot, and his big time spoiler wasn't really THAT bad.  Just enough to piss me off.

Matt oz you suck, first you refuse to pay 50$ for one of the best games ever just because you know one spoiler, and then you try to spread your misery by sending emails. That is really (removed).

Yeah, Grey Ninja, I've been trying to get around to some exploring too, but lately the quests keep dragging me on. If the fighting wasn't so addictive and cool (if this were like OoT where I'm nearly dead most of the time) I'd not be having as much fun. I have to say the combat is the best of any Zelda game thus far. My only gripe is that they could have tweaked the damage a little more.

I'm really wondering what that spoiler is going to be. So far I'm seeing quite a bit in this ocean world that makes me go "Hmmm." Oh well. Off to storm a fortress.

Bless you, Rick!

I know I would have read that newsletter, had you not warned us! I might not have if it had Zelda in the subject line, but then again, I rarely read subject lines...

I deleted everything from Nintendo, hehehe! Although, now that I think about it, I should have kept it so I could see how bad it was (after I beat the game that is.)

Thanks again, Rick.

I'm getting it soon, but I intend to take at least a month beating it.  I beat SFA and Metroid Prime entirely too quickly.  Now I know that I need to savor the games. . . I'll take my time on this one.

After receiving the horrible Nintendo Newsletter, I send an email to NOA explaining their mistake, while making clear I was pretty damn mad at them for spoiling the game for Zelda fans like that.

Here's the reply I got. After reading it I got the feeling they'd look at it and take note, but in the end the whole email feels like you're talking to a wall, like it's no use as they won't even admit their mistake:

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback on our latest Zelda mailing.  We always appreciate hearing from fans about what they like to see (and not see as the case may be).  Our product e-mailings are designed to give our e-mail subscribers access to exclusive game info, art work and screen shots that you can't get anywhere else.  The majority of our subscribers love to get these exclusive looks at secrets within the game.  Like movie trailers, which contain selected scenes from the entire film, sometimes even from the very end, these glimpses of the most exciting parts of the game can help build even more anticipation for our games.

We work hard to make sure that every newsletter we send out strikes a balance between readers who want all of this great detail, and those who simply want to whet their appetite for new and exciting games.

Your comments are very important to Nintendo.  Rest assured that your feedback regarding the newsletter you received will be shared with our publications department for further review.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America

It's a form letter- I'm pretty sure that NOA has a program that identifies key words in people's email then replies back with a pre-written letter. A lot of companies do that- most don't even have different form letters.

I can understand how some people might like to see it, and it is optional, so if they warn you that the movie in the email (or whatever it is) is in fact a spoiler, you can't blame it on Nintendo.  If they didn't warn you, then you can complain all you want.

1st I gotta say this is a great quote "Perhaps your problem is that since you've seen someone live, you figure you've lived. "

2nd, I do not subscribe to the newsletter, could someone please  forward it to seanozz@yahoo.com

please put Zelda spoiler in the  title so I do not open it till I finish the game.
Unless it is the  thing about the little pirate girl, what a surprise that was.
If it's just that unmentionable thing then  I'm way past that now.

Thank you to whoever sends it my way.
