I have yet to buy a Pokemon next-gen game, and while my birthday is soon (May) i think I'll skip this part of the series. (IMO) None of these games link except for the name "Pokemon" and the fact that you start as a young trainer catching pokemon. There is no real story besides stopping Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua (I think?). Anyway while this game won't tank (Does anyone really think it will) It won't reah GTA status

I'm sure I missed it...  What part of your post said anything about embarassment?

Anyway, your story argument is invalid as the plot of nearly all...well, anything is "stop the bad guys."  Actually Pokemon is more like "become the best in the world" with a side of "whoops, looks like I keep running into these bad guys."  ...Which isn't much of an improvement if at all...

Anyway, I'm an 18 year old high school senior, and I'm not embarassed at all to like Pokemon.  I recently rekindled the Pokemon card craze at school.  And I've got Pikachus on my keychains and a Pikachu riding "bitch" in the backseat of my car.  Those "cool" GTA-loving middle schoolers don't know what they're missing.  And besides, I know my EB store people really well; we've had many a ::cough:: deep video game discussion, and they know I'm not some trend-following punk.

I bought Sapphire and I'm 20 years old, was I embrassed? No. What's to be embarrased about? I hate people who are all about oh that game looks kiddie it must only be for kids type of attitude, not that you have that attitude UNCrules, just saying. Will it sell as much as Grand Theft Auto? I don't know, maybe, the game has been selling like hell at my store, probably the number one selling game I've seen in a long time, plus there is more GBA's then PS2's and there's the fact that there is Ruby and Sapphire, so yes it could out sale GTA.

I'm 16 and I wasn't embarrased at all when i pre-ordered and when i picked up my game. Before i even said anything the guy asked me "Ruby or Sapphire?" when i was picking it up.

As far as story goes...I think it's better than the last games. As said before the story of the games are to stop Team whatever from taking over the world. This time around, what the bad guys are doing actually makes some sense.

well I remeber when I picked up Gold I felt pretty embarrased, because as a 15 year old (then, I'm 17 now) It was all about appearence. I mean I used to work at Best Buy and these firends of mine would walk in and buy Yu-Gi-Oh!, and I rember them telling me to not say anything about it. I was just wondering if any of you were closet pokemanicas

Guys, I don't like Pokemon and I'm not saying that it's bad at all.  Who cares what other people think anyways?  It's all about what you like.  Life it too short for anyone to care about what's "in", if you enjoy pokemon, then enjoy it.  I got tired of trying to follow the crowd since I just started jr. high.  I did what I wanted and felt like, not in a bad sort of way, but I just didn't care what the trendy faceless morons did.  I did my own thing.  For you guys that are the same, more power to you.  We are ourselves.

I'm 21.  I can't afford it yet, but I did go down to the store and drool over it the other day.  Am I embarassed?  Why would I be?
Once I had, a little game

My girlfriend is 26, and she picked up Pokemon Sapphire while I was in the bathroom and played it for two hours straight.  (She didn't think she would like it at all.) Shame that the game doesn't have multiple save files.

My Birthdays this wednesday (15) and I'm getting an sp and sapphire, but my only gripe is not having all the pokemon and only one save file.
And agree with you guys that you should do/like what you want, lifes too short.
But I also think that kids (or adults) that try to stand out and be different, because they think its cool, makes no sense at all.

My argument for this kind of logic is simply "it's an RPG which is extremely popular and overly advertised."  That is all there is to it.  I loved the games (I'm 17), but I think the toys and all the movies is just a bit extreme.  I don't pick them up, not because I'm embarrased, but because I'm not into that.

tut tut, roms are bad, you should go buy the game anyway, and perhaps understand whats going on + gameboy games are great for their mobility, not for computers

Hell, no.  I'm a 24 year old soldier and I love it.  Got hooked on it when a buddy in my platoon at Ft. Benning got the special Pikachu version when it came out.  I ran to the PX and got a GBC and Pokemon blue on the spot.  I got Sapphire and it is truly awesome.  The only bummer is that I can't transfer the critters from my blue cart to sapphire.  Spent a lot of time making my Pikachu really bad ass.  Oh well.  Hell, at my last duty station the supply guys were having trouble getting us sheets and blankets so he recomended going into town and picking some up.  Found some nice Pokemon sheets and bought em on the spot.  It was worth it to see the Sergeant Major's expression as he did a room walkthrough!  It fun and addictive that why I like it.  Now to find out were the Pikachus hang out so I can begin building the perfect beast again!!!

I am 19.  I was yelling with joy when i got mine, not kidding either.  I said, "Yes, you are mine now, Pokemon sapphire, you little punk."  I got SOOO many looks.  But when i found out that the fame not only lived up to my expectations, but surpassed them greatly, i wish i screamed louder.  It is like the game has been reborn, my intrest in it is unstoppable.  I have been up every morning till 5:30 am playing.  Class starts at 7.  I am not sleeping tonight either.  So in answer to the question, no.

I'm not embarrased to pick up Pokemon, and I'm 23. I've been following them since they were previewed in Nintendo Power as a "possible" import to America. I've got all the games (even that lame ass Hey You Pikachu, which was fun for about five minutes; good thing I bought it for ten bucks) and I collected the cards up to the e-series, at which point I decided there were just too many. I watch the toon regularly and my copy of Sapphire will probably be welded into my GBA for the next several months.
I honestly don't care what people think. My friends know I'm a Poke-maniac, and they don't give me much grief over it (aside from the occasional "Pikachu must die" joke). Besides, they can't say much... a few of them like "Veggietales"...

Funny you mention that.  Even though Pikachu is my favorite Poke-critter I did participate in a Pikachu lynching once.  I had a roomate in the Army who never cleaned his side of the room, and one time he lost a pass for leaving his plush Pikachu out.  I made a noose and hung the poor thing inside his wall locker.  He got the point.  He had a Furby doll to that I threatened to skin one time, too.  Man those things are pure evil...

Though I was definitely NOT embarassed to get Pokemon Sapphire, I can understand where this thread idea comes from. It's unbelievable some of the looks and comments I get when people ask what I'm playing and I tell them its Pokemon Sapphire. You would think that once you were in college people would be able to judge by more than the mythical "cool" factor but apparently some people never grow up.

TracerX

BTW, before those of you that don't like Pokemon start flaming me I'm not griping about people who have at least tried it and decided it wasn't for them. I'm talking about the people who won't even give the game a chance because "that game's for kids!".

I kind of was embarassed (hey, I'm a teenager, but I am ashamed nonetheless of my shallowness).  To show I wasn't really into the game, instead of saying, "Gimme Pokemon Sapphire", I said, "I'll take the blue one."
I got polygons. . .
