I'll be playing the damn game, that's where.

Assuming it's not delayed again.
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

Is that really true anymore? In the latest Kirby games Deedee has been neutered a bit. Heck in Squeak Squad he was the first boss and ended up helping kirby.

Yeah, I'm not sure where this thought of two stages per character in SSBM were coming from....  Either that or I missed something after all these years.

Even though King Dedede's appearance was expected (he was the most requested characters in Japan) its still a great announcement because...

1. The Kirby series gets a much better representation in SSB: Melee in Particular was a Mario/Zelda/Pokemon fest, with the other franchises getting just one or two characters.

2. Heavyweight: The SSB series has been lacking in heavy characters so its great to see that Sakurai is adding more of them.

3. More villain/rival representation: The original SSB was ruled by the main characters. Melee tried to balance things out but only had 3 villains; Bowser, Ganondorf and Mewtwo (even then he was only a villain in the Pokemon movies and TV series). King Dedede's addition to the Brawl roster adds a bit more balance between the heroes and the villains/rivals.

Dedede is always considered as a joke villain; Dark Matter is the true, evil boss of the Kirby series...

The 2 from Melee came from me...I couldn't remember, but what throw me off I think was the clones.  Dr. Mario, young Link, Pichu, they made it feel like some characters had more than one.

As for King Dedede, I think we all knew this was coming.  Nintendo really only has a few characters that will make great heavies, but I am surprised Sakurai didn't mention Wario as a heavy, I figured he was.

Hopefully we will have Gannondorf and potentially Ganon as heavier characters as well.  Mewtwo should also be designed as a Heavy.

In what calendar system are December and February about a year apart?

Probably in the calender system that said we were supposed to have the next Smash Bros. (online) at launch.  November 06 - February 08 - that's more than a year delay.

I wasn't expecting King Dedede at all.  This is great news.  It make me feel like we've just scratched the surface of the character list.

I really hope K Rool is not in the game.  He always seemed like a kind of Bowser rip-off to me.

I want a Cranky Kong Assist Trophy.  He can Yell at the players and remind everyone that when he played games there was no 4 player support, and we were fine with just having one button...and blocking was an impossiblity.

Couldn't disagree more. If there is one thing this game needs, it's Kaptain K. Rool:

Maybe it's an age thing?  I was in high school when DKC came out.  I could see if I was younger feeling more nostalgic for it.

Just throwing out something about character numbers...22 known characters (ZSS non-inclusive) with 8 veteran "locks" (Luigi, Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Game & Watch, Mewtwo, Marth, Ness) based solely on unique move sets (assuming Ganondorf is given a new move set), making 30 characters...I'm thinking 40 characters total is very likely at this point...

Edit: not on the list...

Sonic was in before he was even on that poll, I believe. He was the most highly-requested 3rd party character for the game in a public poll, hence why he doesn't appear on other polls.

Or Marth and Ness, for that matter.

The effeminate blue-haired teenager and little boy with beady eyes quotas have both already been filled, respectively, though I expect we're more likely to see Marth than Ness.

Well that's why I put "lock" in quotations and said "based solely on unique move sets"... =)

I'm just going to assume all original characters will return and that all clones are gone (except for Ganondorf, who I believe will be given a new move set) until proven wrong...

That makes sense.

To me, 40 seems a bit much, but we'll wait and see.
