August Virtual Console Releases for Japan
« on: July 30, 2007, 07:55:36 AM »
Now with multiple versions of the same game.

Nintendo has announced the August lineup for the Virtual Console in Japan.  The usual suspects arrive next month, including Super Mario USA (Super Mario Bros. 2 outside of Japan) and Sonic 3.  Other big names include Street Fighter II Turbo and Wave Race 64.

Notable this month is the release of Gradius on PC Engine.  The release marks the second and more arcade-accurate version of Gradius to be released on Virtual Console.  Gradius for Famicom was a launch title.

Check below for the entire list of seventeen games.

  •
  • Crack Down [Sega]
  •
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3 [Sega]
  •
  • ESWAT: Cyber Police (City Under Siege) [Sega]

How do nintendo make their money? Release a re-release of an already-released game.

Nintendo has been doing that for quite sometime. Well, as long as some of the Japan-only games arrive to the Virtual Console, I don't really care. Unless if I buy a Japanese Wii of course!

Wouldn't they make even more money if they brought out more N64 games? LIKE GOLDENEUE

Spelunker has personal significance for me only in that a friend of my brother once used it as an example of the most depressing and boring videogame music ever.  Go ahead and listen to it and feel the uncontrollable urge to cry or fall asleep or both.

Is Nintendo worth crapping on for the Gradius re-release?  Isn't that Konami's decision?  Same with Capcom and the Street Fighter II variations.

How come the lucky Japanese get to know what's coming out in advance, while we USians have to wait until Monday to find out what's out?

It's not just us in North America, it's Europe and Oceania that also have to wait to find out. The only VC games us non-Japanese get to know ahead of time are TurboGrafx-16 games, and that's only because of Hudson Soft.

As for Gradius, does this mean Midway will want to add both the SNES and Genesis versions of Mortal Kombat (blood/non-blood) and Mortal Kombat II (SNES had blood, and better graphics)? I wonder if Nintendo will release the SNES version of Wario's Woods?

You know why the Japanese know ahead of time because Nintendo has a VC plan there. Here I wouldn't be surprised if Reggie wakes up Monday morning and says "Hmmm what rom should I download today from www.roms.com and post" depending on what side of the bed he wakes up determines what games we get, good or bad.

Well, someone needs to surround Reggie's bed with Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japanese version) ROMs... maybe he'd get the hint then...

Reggie can overwrite a Read-Only Memory.

I wonder if Nintendo/SEGA will come up with a way to allow using Sonic and Knuckle's lock on cart with downloads of Sonic 2 and 3...

Technically, there's no reason that they couldn't.  But I'm still waiting for all those enhancements to classic games that they promised.

I figure Sega will sell Sonic 2 & 3 with Knuckles as seperate games at full price.  Why?  Because that's the greedy corporation thing to do.  Capcom is releasing every Street Fighter II variation and is getting away with it so why wouldn't Sega do the same?
