Yes they game looks like it warrents my money. I was going to get the game even w/out Link because the first Soul Calibur was such a high quality fighter for the dreamcast. And Link's additions was just a plus for me. (Oh there is a thread in the talkback section.)
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

WOW! That commercial looked incredible, Link looks so...... not like a pansy? I always thought of Adult Link as some kind of pansy looking fairy dude, but he looks damn cool in this game. Id be surprised if the PSX2 version outsold the Gamecube version, VERY surprised, Link > PSX2...

Neither WMP9 nor just the WMV9 codec installs on Win98; it requires Win98SE.  Guess which one I'm stuck with...

You should...........really upgrade, or get a new computer.

Anyways, YOU MIGHT RENT?! Have you played the first one? It's incredible, it has so much depth to master, yet you can jump on and whoop some ass. The second one is sure to amaze me.

Yea, anyone who has a video game system should buy this game, unless you absolutely cannot play fighting games whatsoever because you hate them so much. I can't wait to get this game, I still play the original all the time with my friends, 50 matches at a time.

Hmmm, I really don't know what this game will be like, because I have never played Soul Calibur 1.

What is the fighting "style" in Soul Caliber?  I mean, I love Street Fighter's fighting style and Guilty Gear's fighting style.  However I HATE Mortal Kombat' fighting style.  It just seemed to slow to me.  I love having high speed and lots of combos.

Is Soul Caliber fast and full of combos, or is it a slow fighter?

WMV is much better than MOV. I hate how sometimes I have to install Quicktime to view a short trailer that turns out to be crap...

Soul Caliber 2 however. Very simple instructions. Buy Freeloader or Action Replay (If you don't have someway to play imports already) and then import Soul Caliber for a somewhat reasonable price. March seriously drained all the cash I had

The first Soul Calibur, along with Ocarina of Time are the only games thus far that I consider to be "perfect" games.  For those of you unfamiliar, Soul Calibur in an INCREDIBLY deep and thoroughly enjoyable fighter that only gets more fun as you and your friends master it.  This coming from a guy that gave up on the fighting game genre years ago.  Seriously, everything from the outfits to the soundtrack to the play mechanics, to the stages and extras are the pinnacle of what a fighting game should be.  The game was and is absolute perfection in what it does and thems some big shoes to fill for Soul Calibur 2  Of course I expect nothing but amazing things from the sequel, add to that the luxury of being able to play as a badass Link and you have a must-buy game for any fan of Zelda, Soul Calibur, or just interactive entertainment.

As I mentioned on the Talkback thread, I would've liked Namco to get a bit creative and have at least one alternate outfit for Link, as well his own stage since I haven't seen that CLEARLY depicted.  Alas, having Link is sweet enough, who cares about Spawn or Heiachimachiblah.

I might consider getting this game for two reasons.

1)  Link is in it.  (Good enough reason for most Nintendo fans)
2)  Sophitia is in it.  (Good enough reason for male fans of Soul Edge)

I am not really that much of a fighting game fan, but this game truly looks different for me.  I want to sample the controls before finalizing my decision though.  I would really prefer the Japanese version over the US version though, so I may be buying that Freeloader at some point.

I believe that he has his own stage. In one of the new locked videos at ign, there is one that shows the character selection screne and then a match between 2 Links. At the start of the stage pan it says "The Legend Of Zelda" and sounds like (vaguely) the Zelda theme.

I have Soul Blade for the PS1.  Is Soul Calibur supposed to be a sequel to that?  Why the changed name?

Ihave Win98, and Media Player handles the *.wmv extension.  Have you tried divx.com?  On the rare occassions I find a WMV file that does not work, I just use the Divx Player.

I'm strongly thinking about importing (let's see... next week... versus four months wait... hm...), my only worry is the Quest mode, the one where you travel the map and fight battles with different requirements like "Must throw opponent for a Ring Out," "Sinking in Quicksand," and the like. If gives you the instructions beforehand, but I've got next to no skill at understanding written Japanese. I could work out some of them, but others at best I'd be staring at a FAQ for all of the time, and that'd be a bit of a bummer. Still, maybe someone will make a handy print-out map image for reference...

Isn't it fun when you talk yourself into a purchase? ;P

Yeh... Namco makes a very good fighter.. like Tekken.

Anywho, in one of my old old gaming magazines, I found a review of Soul Caliber, pretty innovative game... you  could do all sorts of neat stuff. like having your opponent miss you (say with a move that moves u a distance across the screen) and fall in.. say ... a very deep hole to death.

Yes.  WhileI was watching this afternoon's NASCAR race, I did some research and found that Soul Edge/Blade for the PS1 and Soul Calibur are all part of the same series.  They share the same characters, same fighting style, and same traveling campaign style.

Soul Edge was the first game, and pretty much sucked.  Soul Calibur was Soul Edge 2, but they changed the name so that people would give it a chance.  Soul Calibur was very good in the arcade, but when they released a "better than perfect" version for the Dreamcast, including better graphics and tons of unlockables, it achieved legendary status.

I hate fighting games, with Killer Instinct and Soul Calibur being the only exceptions, and Soul Calibur blows Killer Instinct away.  I think this is why people are looking forward to Soul Calibur 2 so much ... they're expecting another masterpiece.

I agree- while I'm ecstatic that we even got Link in one of the best fighting series ever made, I would've liked a bit better of an alternate costume than just his Goron tunic. I mean, look at some of the alternate costumes in Soul Calibur- there's some pretty drastic changes. I was hoping we might be able to use Fierce Deity Link.

Also, I understand the Weapons Master mode is back from Soul Edge- does that mean Link will have a variety of different swords?
