A Virtual Boy multiple choice question
« on: May 31, 2007, 11:44:43 AM »
Is the Virtual boy a console or a portable?

If I start a thread about the Virtual Boy and how much I enjoy playing it at home in the Nintendo Console Discussion section THEN start a thread extolling the virtues of the portable nature of the Virtual Boy in the Nintendo Handheld Discussion section at the same time, which thread will Pale lock?

A. Console
B. Handheld
C. Both
D. Ban and Lock for this poll topic.
Hidden option E. _____

It depends.  Where is the Virtual Boy featured more:  Console or handheld Wario Wares?  Remember the first one on both consoles and handhelds negate themselves, since all the microgames are the same.

Anyone know the answer to this?

Anyway, The Virtual Boy requires stationary positioning, has a wired controller, and requires a surface to set it on.  During play, it isn't portable at all.  However, it is entirely self-contained, with it's own screen(s), so you can take it anywhere much easier than any game console.  I'd certainly say it is a portable platform, from its ease of transfer, along with the built-in screens.

Additionally, I personally consider every platform a console, for some reason, and base my categories on what is portable and what isn't.  By this virtue, I would say that the handheld would be the way to go for me, personally.

Verdict:  It's the Virtual Boy.  It and the CDi both go to the Funhouse.

Console.  There is nothing portable about it.  You can't carry it.  The instructions told you not to play it in a car.

Trust me, i tried to make it portable back in the day.  Went as far as trying to create a head strap using belts.  It didn't work.

Yeah, I've seen some homemade VB headstraps... They aren't comfy lookin'.

Console.  Just because I put a battery pack and a screen on my GameCube, it doesn't mean it's a portable.

Official I think it fell into the Handheld division in Nintendo.  Really loved my Virtual boy.  I really like to see the games on VC even if you couldn't do the whole headset thing.  Even better yet just create a collection of them in full 3D for the Wii.  Though it be murder to emulate that controller.

It isn't handheld, but it is portable.

No more portable than a console with a fliptop monitor and a battery is, though. (Unless that console is Xbox).

I have played it in the car.  Motion sickness was the result, and that's the only time I've ever been motion sick.
