"In news that is sure to rock the gaming world it has been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII, the blockbuster RPG highly anticipated by millions of fans of the series, will not be an exclusive game for the PlayStation 3 console.

The Final Fantasy XIII project as of right now consists of two games for the PlayStation 3 as well as a mobile game.  Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix has come out and made the confirmation that other consoles will be receiving Final Fantasy XIII on top of the PlayStation 3.

This is pretty big news and could lead to speculation as to which Final Fantasy XIII games are going where.  The obvious rumors are going to be that FFXIII is heading to the Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation 3.

This quote though could also mean that the series could be heading to the Nintendo DS handheld and or the Nintendo WII as well since Square Enix has been very impressed and pleased with the progression and installed user base of the Wii, with the DS already receiving the Final Fantasy treatment a few times.

Let the rumors begin.  Either way though the fact that Final Fantasy XIII will not be a PS3-exclusive has to make any Sony fan cringe in their gaming chairs."

I'll admit I am not 100% sure, since I can't find the official statement anywhere. But I doubt a PS3 fan site would post a news like this. Also, this has been speculated for a long time, especially after the E3 fiasco happened.

This is also quite confusing. Square has said that FFXIII is going to be more than one game, yet this story seems to be talking about the FIRST game in the project, the PS3 bound FFXIII.

So take this however you want it.

I haven't been following this closely, but doesn't this just support what was said in the other thread? In that the PS3 FFXIII will still be exclusive, but there will be other games in the same "galaxy" or whatever.

So this is far from confirmation that the PS3's FF will be going anywhere else.

I'm not sure how direct the quote is, but if we take the one sentence...

Then it appears so, but it's hard to say whose quote that is and if it has even a shred of credibility or not.

I think the confusion lies in that Square has already mentioned that the FFXIII project is a MASSIVE multi console affair a la Compilation of FFVII. But I think this is talking about the FIRST game, ie the main game in the project, the first FF game shown off for the PS3 last year.

Like I said, I am not 100% sure on this since I haven't found the official release.

He just says "Final Fantasy XIII". If what they were talking about were the multiple games based on the FFXIII project, they could've said "The other consoles will also receive the other games in the FFXIII anthology". But they just say "FFXIII".

Again, confusing as hell...

Yeah, you might be right.

Looks like I jumped the gun...But hey, at least I wasn't the only one that saw it that way. That website definitely made it look like the PS3 was losing a exclusive, and the VG Cats creator also saw it the same way.

Its how they word it that makes it so annoying and confusing. Like I said, if they were talking about the multiple games in the FF XIII project they should have said "The other consoles will get their own version of the FFXIII saga", not "the other consoles will also get FFXIII".

S-E is supposed to release 2 FF XIII for the PS3: the "real" FF XIII and FF XIII Versus, which is more of an action game from what I heard.
But I still hope for some Wii love from S-E.

All I can say is that I would not be the least bit surprised if the new FF game(s) are not exclusive to PS3 taking into consideration how terrible PS3 has been doing, these games are big budget titles and I don't think Square is stupid enough to take a huge financial hit.

Yeah, at first I thought that it was out of the realm of possibility... but MAN... Every week, Sony fans live in the constant fear of it selling less than 10k in Japan... That's XBox 360 levels from last year like!
