Final Fantasy XIII on the Wii (Speculation)
« on: April 17, 2007, 08:01:47 AM »
Saw this at GoNintendo:

It all started with this little image, showing the games that will make up the Fabula Nova Crystallis series for the Final Fantasy XIII games.

http://gonintendo.com/?p=16343#comments

This is where things get interesting. There are two circles that represent the two PS3 games, one that represents the mobile game, a somewhat smaller blank circle by itself, and two blank circles, one large and one noticeably smaller, grouped together and separated from the rest.

Obviously, these blank circles represent new games that are going to be a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe, but the two blank circles are the most interesting. It is being speculated that the two grouped together represent a console game (larger circle) and a handheld counterpart (smaller circle).

My guess is that it's a Wii game, and the smaller circle is the DS. It COULD be the PS3 and PSP (considering the rest of the series is on PS3 and they probably wouldn't want to stretch their market, and they have yet to REALLY support the PSP), but I doubt it. Square-Enix is definitely noticing how much the Wii is selling, and how relatively cheaper it would be to develop for it. That, and they are absolutely in love with the DS, have been supporting it like crazy, have been getting mad Nintendo love for supporting it as they have, and probably won't stop anytime soon. Square-Enix is also smart enough to know that the Wii has yet to have a traditional, bread-and-butter JRPG announced for it, and that they'd absolutely clean house if the first was a Final Fantasy game.

Microsoft is out of the running for the simple fact that it doesn't have a handheld counterpart, and you can tell by the size and formation of the circles that that's what it's most likely going to be.

Granted, this is all crazy speculation, but I think it's safe to say that I would have a spontaneous orgasm if any game from the Final Fantasy XIII series came to the Wii (as long as it's a similar RPG, and not some weird fighting game/tactics spinoff).

Any thoughts?

I think part of the reason we are getting mad DS support is Square finally started using an engine instead of developing of the game from scratch.   So its easy.  Plus they realize that RPGs are very easy to randomly set done most of time.  Which is good for a handheld market.
Personally I hope FF:12 gets a port to Wii even if it uses the classic controller, actually that be preferable.  I want to play that game but I can't justify the PS2 now.

I've been predicting a Final Fantasy XII port for months. It just makes so much sense considering Reverent Wings is on DS not PSP.

Though I do hope that if they port over FF:XII they enhance it some.  Also be really cool to be able to use the DS as a controller for it.  Inventory and switches on the fly.  Also looking at one of my friend using that license board it might make that quicker as well.

God that would be sooooo great. All I could ever ask for...

But I'm sad: The smaller circle could be a trading card game that ties into the larger circle, which would be an arcade machine much like how Sega did Love & Berry, extra cards would not only be used to play the game, but give your characters new clothes!

Sure the Wii is doing gangbusters, but you have GOT to be sure that Square is eyeing the Love & Berry market and thinking arcade machines + Collectible Card Games + Buying Booster Packs with new fashions for your Final Fantasy clothes for your characters = MONEY.

I'd love that, but at the same time I'd be just as happy if they just took some of the extra power of the Wii to get rid of the lag in some of the bigger battles.

Well considering how poorly the PS3 is doing in Japan and how the Wii is completly dominating, I'm sure there will be some kind of Final Fantasy XIII game appearing on the Wii.  Every Final Fantasy game since FFV has sold over 2 million copies in Japan and when you look at the fact that the PS3 hasn't even broke a million yet and will be lucky if it's even close to 2 million by the time FFXIII is ready, releasing a FFXIII game for the Wii is a MUST for Square-Enix if they hope to make any money.

And considering how the Wii is dominating in Japan, my guess is the Final Fantasy XIII game for the Wii will not just be a sidestory but be a huge part of the main Fabula Nova Crystallis universe story.  Since the Wii version will be would sells the most in Japan, I see it's game having a storyline just as important to the Fabula Nova Crystallis universe as the PS3 game.

It'll be like the PS3 game tells one half of the story while the Wii game then tells the other half.  But it's done in a way so that you dont need to play both games to get the overall story, but if you were to play both games then everything would make since.  Similar to the Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons games.
I’m gonna have you play every inch of this game! - Masahiro Sakurai

I'm going to be late to the party and ask:

Fabula Nova Crystallis universe?

I'm assuming thats where 13 will take place I was wondering if anyone has some linkage for that.

Yeah thats what this thread was supposed to be about at first before the wishful FF12 talk.  its basically the same universe these 3 games exist in.

FFXIII PS3
FFXIII Versus PS3 (Despite its name its an action RPG made by the Kingdom Hearts team lead by Noramura himself)
FFXIII AGITO Cell phone

The thing that bothers me is that if the cell phone game got as big as a circle then what does the small circle represent?  I do hope that those are Wii/Ds projects to add to the Fabula Nova Crystallis projects.  The Wii could use more Rpgs anyhow and the Square Enix loyalty around the world is pretty strong.

Anywhoo, all I want is my Kingdom Hearts on Wii and Ds. . . .

Yeah that would save my $600.  My Wife is really into the series.  I really enjoyed the first, Chain of Memory I couldn't get into (battle system), and 2 was a major disappointment for me because it had a lot of potential and it was pretty much "Me Sora, Me Bash" compared to the first one.  Though the original secret trailer and the new secret trailer at the end of KH2 and KH2 Final Mix + to peak my interest.

Wiki for Fabula_Nova_Crystallis

Yeah, I'd LOVE for FFXIII or a near-title to be on Wii, but I'm really pinning my heart and hopes on Kingdom Hearts making the crossing.

Agreed. And I think Squeenix would actually be able to work wonders with the battle system and the wiimote.

I don't think that all the remaining circles are necessarily games.... I mean, the "GAME" tag above PS3 and mobile phones would be redudant if all were games...

I do hope that one of them is a Wii/DS game though...

Square-Enix's Nintendo support has blossomed on the DS, hopefully that has given them a bit of incentive to move some of that support console-side.

FFXII was the best RPG of last gen.  There was no other RPG that comes close.

After playing FFXII, I really can't go back to the old school RPGs anymore.

You have two PS3 titles, one mobile phone titles, and 3 unannounced games. Now I could go absolutely crazy with this picture and base ideas on the size and relation of the other circles, but I am not going to. All I will say is that I’d think it’s a pretty safe bet that at least one of these Final Fantasy XIII will come to a Nintendo platform. Place your bets now…what’s it going to be?

I love how this "pretty safe bet" is done with no credible evidence. Good call GoNintendo!

And this is still just speculation. Probably Square messing with the fanboys.

I'm sure that when he said "safe bet" he was talking about the DS, considering it got a sequel to FFXII along with the next DQ game.

I'm putting my money that if there is indeed another FFXIII game in the works it will head to the DS.
