Internet Channel Updated
« on: April 11, 2007, 04:37:28 PM »
The final version of the Internet Channel is now available to download. Apparently added features include a search option and better visibility of text, amongst other improvements.

A system update is required followed by a download from the Wii Software section of the Wii Shop Channel.

Mine was relatively quick.  There are things I like and things I don't.  One of them being you can no longer zoom in column mode and that the NWR text is unreadable at the default size.

I don't know why I downloaded the internet channel. I guess out of principle... it's free and I can't pass that up.

Too bad it's so slow and no keyboard support sucks. My computer is like 5 steps away.

I found the process confusing. This morning I noticed the blue-light-o-fun on my wii and checked my wii-mail. Sure enough its the notice from Nintendo that the update is ready for download. So I didn't bother reading it and just clicked "update". So after a few minutes the update was done. My opera still showed as the trial version. I thought maybe I had to reset my wii or something but that didn't work either. So I just thought I'd figure it out later and went to work. It wasn't until I was reading this thread that I found out there was a system update as well as having to go to the shop channel to update the browser....  Oh well, at least now I know why my browser didn't update this morning.

How big is your display? I'm posting this from my Wii and the default font size on both the main site and this forum is perfectly readable. This browser is far perfect but it's a HUGE improvement over the "Trial Version".

It has improved so much that I wouldn't have minded parting with the 500 points they'll be charging for it come June.

Honestly, browsing the web through my Wii isn't that great at all. The news and the weather channels, however, now those are channels that I've actually found myself using. My only gripe is the fact that the Weather channel updates about two or three times a DAY.

Much better.  Went to YouTube...watched videos.

It got stuck on me at Nintendo's own website while trying to run a flash video of Super Paper Mario.  It wouldn't show the Pokemon Commercial on the Pokemon website for the upcoming Diamond and Pearl versions.

I don't like the automatic column zoom being taken off by default.  I'm still reading  on  how to toggle that back on.

Overall, better than the trial version.

It's nice, but getting it sure caused some headaches.  First of all, the update went fine.  Then I couldn't connect to the Shop Channel, which, annoyingly, takes about fifty years to decide it's never going to connect and give control back to me.  I didn't have time to mess with it, so I left it until the following evening, by which time it had occurred to me to check the Wii's connection settings to make sure it was using the right one.  I have two settings in there.  Number 1 is the USB connector, and number 2 is my recently purchased wireless router.  Sure enough, the update had made it default back to connection 1, which I didn't have running on my computer anymore.  That's going to be annoying if every update resets that.

When I started the Internet Channel for the first time, it said it was writing data, then it put me on the new home screen, and my remote stopped working.  I would push A, and it would blink at me, and then turn off again, just like it does if the Wii is turned off.  I turned the Wii off, and the remote wouldn't turn it on again.  I started it up with the power button, and neither of my remotes would connect to it.  I tried the sync buttons, and still nothing happened.  Finally, I unplugged the Wii, and when I plugged it back in, everything worked fine again.

I hope that my annoyance at least saves someone in a similar predicament some grief.
