More RE4 Wii Details

A retail listing confirms budget pricing, release date, true wide screen support, and more.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=13291

A full listing for Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition at the EB Games online store provides quite a bit of information on this newly announced game.  Most importantly, the North American release date is June 25, 2007 with a retail price of only $29.95.  This pricing marks a significant break from Capcom's previous policy on Resident Evil ports.

Additionally, the store listing mentions that the Wii version will support Dolby Pro Logic II (which was also in the GameCube version) and "true 16:9 widescreen" (which was NOT available in the GameCube or PS2 versions).  This means that owners of standard-ratio televisions will still have letterboxes while playing the game, but wide screen TV owners will finally be able to play the game without letterboxes.

As previously confirmed, the Wii version also features new controls, with the pointer feature being used for weapons aiming and various motion controls used for swiping Leon's knife and performing actions during cut-scenes.  Content added to the PS2 conversion, such as extra missions for Ada Wong, will also be included in the Wii edition.

Cool, looks like it's time for me to get rid of my PlayStation 2 version of the game (maybe even the GameCube version, too).

With support for the Classic Controller and probably the GC controller too, I doubt there will be much reason to keep the GC game after this guy comes out.

Did Capcom ever mention Classic and GC controller support?

Also, check my sig. There's a reason this is called the 'WII EDITION". If people want to play with GC controls, or even PS2 controls, they should just play those instead.

Its true that we don't know how the controls are going to turn out or how much they will add to the gameplay, and if they do add GC and Classic controller support it means that Capcom went above and beyond the call of duty. But if the first thing people do when they get the game is plug in a GC controller they might as well just play the original edition.

The PS2 version did have true widescreen, and it was a Big Deal.  I played through it in that mode, and it's the main reason I prefer it.  Of course, I might need to drop it for the Wii Edition now...

I went back and tried to play this on GCN the other day. I just felt like I could be swinging my arms around making the controls less painful.

If they can nail the controls, this is the killer app.

EDIT: My typing was shocking. WHAT WAS GOING ON!

Not to dissuade people from playing this game again from the beginning, but for people who haven't finished it or don't have time to replay it, couldn't they make the game read your GameCube RE4 save?

(This is also making me wonder why LoZ: Collectors Edition disc saves aren't compatible with VC saves.  Or the two GCN discs that had OoT, as well as the VC save.  At least I don't thinl they are.)  Since it's the same save data, even if they were written differently, couldn't the later release be backwards compatible with the previous version's save?  I don't think it would be difficult...

Of course, whatever the requirements are for unlocking extras that weren't in the GameCube version (like Separate Ways and whatever else there might be) might require a replay to unlock anyway.

Probaly because with the remote there is no longer an absolute point of reference. On the GC, all movement and aiming was fixed to the right shoulder. This way Leon soots where your pointing. The Wiimote is the laser sight. Otherwise, the the Wiimote would have been turned into a glorified analodge joystick with no zero.

They also removed the laser since the transition between Leon aiming in to infinity and a target close up would produce a jump in Leon's movement. It would look really weird.

It all basicly boils down to what works. They had to modify the aiming system so the game can work with the wiimote.

Thirty bucks, eh? Assuming I won't be playing much else in June, this is somewhat tempting.

This is genius.  I wanted to run through that game again, but wasn't really all that interested in buying another copy.  I figured I'd play through the Gamecube version again.  But at $30 with better graphics and more gameplay, how can I say no?  Smart move.
