New Resident Evil Info from Famitsu
« on: April 04, 2007, 07:40:10 AM »
Famitsu confirms Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and gives new details about Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=13272

The community over at the NeoGAF forums put together an interesting thread about the new gaming news revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu.  There was a pretty big spread about the Biohazard (Resident Evil) series that included the first information about a Resident Evil 4 remake for Wii.

Firstly, it is coming.  It will include the new features that were added to the PS2 version as well as some Wii control additions.  Aiming will be done with the pointer while reloading and knife fighting will be done by shaking the remote.  Also, based on the scans, it may run natively on widescreen televisions, filling the entire screen, instead of in letterbox like the GameCube version.

On the Umbrella Chronicles front, the game will be an on-rails shooter using the Wii remote pointer to aim.  The analog stick on the nunchuck will be used to look around and the player will have to choose a path during certain parts.  Several Resident Evil characters will return as well.

NWR is currently looking into further details about the games.  If you want to check out the NeoGAF thread, click the source link above.

Do we know if it will still be at a discount?  I hope so, after all, it's a previous gen game.  I never picked it up before, I just never played RE, but I'll get it if it's discounted or if the controls get great reviews.  Either way, I figure it will be a win, but unless the controls are superb, no way I pay $50 for it.

I don't know much as I can't read Japanese.  Usually when Famitsu breaks a story like this, a similar English announcement isn't too far off.  We'll let you know if anything pops up.

Well, according to here (I promote our own forums), gamestop has it listed for $29.99, making it an easy impulse purchase for those that have and those that haven't played it.

Yeah, I promote our own forums too, but I like to go to the source.    Gamestop has been wrong too many times for me to trust that yet, but it definitely means it's possible.

I'm suddenly pretty glad I have yet to buy RE4...I just hope the controls are good.  Can't really go wrong with pointer aiming, not sure about the rest.  Do the new PS2 features include crappier graphics?

And then you've got the on-rails game, which may be okay, but I'm not expecting too much.  Rental, I'm betting.
That's my opinion, not yours.

An on-rails shooter? Failure.

My interest in Umbrella Chronicles has dropped quite a bit. I'll give it a shot, but this seems like such a missed opportunity especially with RE4's new control scheme. Let's hope the controls are handled well.

I have enough fun with the plunger gun part of Raving Rabbids that the on-rails game sounds mighty enticing.

I found them to be too long and repetitive.

Capcom should avoid this my making them somewhat short, completely un-expected and full of surprises and make the action varied.

My interest sharply increased when I read the part about the on-rails shooter.  That's just me, though.

Capcom is redoing the FMV scenes in realtime, so I don't see why they'd half-ass it and not use the GC engine for the PS2 bits...

I'm just hoping that it might be two player for UC.  I would love to play UC with my wife.   She laughs in the face of horror films but RE4 totally freaked her out.  I want to see what she does while playing it instead of just watching me play it.

Well if it has true Widescreen and not the black bars, I'm sold! Heck I'm even interested in Umbrella Chronicles, it may be the first good on-rails shooter for Wii (Unless it is like those Resident Evil on rail shooters for the Playstation, which I heard were pretty bad).

There are no FMV scenes in the original GameCube version of RE4.  They were all real-time using the game engine.  On the later PS2 version, Capcom had to convert them to FMV for some reason, but they still look like in-game graphics, they just don't respond to changes in your character model and whatnot.

I've got an odd feature that lets me zoom in widescreen mode on my HDTV. I tried this when I played RE 4 for the 3rd time; it wasn't that bad. There was some minor pixelation, mainly with the fog, but it looked great when it filled the entire screen. Anyone else with an HDTV try this?

I sadly foolishly traded RE 4 away, but I guess its a blessing in disguise. This is the one wii-make I don't mind buying, and it seems other people don't mind as well.

Capcom's supposed to have a gamer's day on the 12th, methinks all the cats will out of the bag by then...

I'm disappointed that Umbrella Chronicles is going to be on-rails. It may turn out alright, but I was really looking forward to an original Wii adventure implementing the same controls that will be featured in RE4 Wiimake. Oh well, guess I'll just pick up RE5 on the 360 and be happy with that.

But there were new scenes (FMVs) added for the Ada missions and what not, which now need to be redone in realtime, as Bill stated.

The ONLY FMV scene in the game involves the bridge rotating around the clock-tower-type place.  That only lasted less than 5 seconds.  It's identifiable due to video artifacts present in the screen.
