A single game from a very, very long-standing series can be yours if have the points.

 Just one game this week.  The last time this happened, all was well in Virtual-Console-ville.  This time?  Well, this time's a little different.  It's not that the featured game is terrible, it's just that it's probably not for you.  Especially when it'll cost you $8 American.

Here's what we think of it.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire - SNES

 Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV - SNES

 Released 1/13/1995
  1-8 Players
  Cost: 800 Wii Points ($8)
  Controllers: Wii Classic, GameCube

 Koei's Romance of the Three Kingdoms series is 11 games strong.  Somehow.  The SNES version available for download here is entry number four, subtitled Wall of Fire.  Like the other games in the series, it's set in China during the first few centuries, where you must micro-manage the cities under your rule in an attempt to conquer other cities.  The historically accurate turned-based gameplay asks you to juggle many, many factors in order to make sure things are running smoothly, like making sure your armies are trained up well enough to conquer nearby cities, ensuring the people you've left in charge of cities are making their people happy, and way too much other stuff to fit in this writeup.

 Recommended for FansA game like this is why we invented the "Recommended for Fans" rating.  Unless you like doing nothing but micro-manage, you will not like this game.  It will overwhelm you.  The Romance series has always been an acquired taste, so unless you're looking for something deeper than SimCity there probably isn't a reason why you should go after RoTK IV.  However, there are 11 Romance of the Three Kingdoms games for a reason; enough people out there like them enough for Koei to keep producing them.  Maybe you're one of them. - Steven Rodriguez

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Perhaps we should rename the three "ratings" for VC games to

"Recommended for Everyone and Kairon"
"Recommended for Fans and Kairon"
"Recommended for Kairon"

Games should have only TWO ratings.

"Recommended for Kairon"
"Not Recommended for Kairon but he'll buy probably buy them anyways"

Kairon you are one crazy VC buyer! At least this isn't as bad as wanting to buy Double Dragon Dungeons Old for TGX.
