Topic: IGN has the Poll for the New Monster in Godzilla Game

I know that we have a contingency of Godzilla fans here.  Well IGN somehow wormed the choice of the new original monster in the new Melee game, that looks great.  So heres the link.

Personally I like the first and fourth choice.  I like to see the fourth in action but I think the first fits better.

I personally didn't like any of those Monster designs...most of them were just too generic.

MagMouth is horribly generic.  A rock Monster that spits out Lava?  That has been down countless times, and they always feel the same.  

Now, I voted for Fire Lion.  I thought that the cultural aspect of the design was cool, and that they tried to capture a unique style for this monster, that stands out but also fits in to the Godzilla universe.

I hope it wins, but I have a feeling it won't.

I'm not familiar enough with Godzilla movies to speak authoritatively here, but I have to say Magmouth is one of the least imaginative monsters I have ever seen, and it's just plain sad that it is winning by such a large margin.

Yep it is.  But I feel like it fits better into the universe then the others.

Ceric:  See I actually thought FireLion fit better.  The Godzilla universe tends to focus on cultural aspects of the monsters.  Mothra is a defender of an ancient civilization.

There are planets of Monsters were monsters roam free and fight, and even the monster island on Earth.

To create a monster based on China's Lion Statues intrigued me.  Is the beast a god that the Chinese worshiped, or do the humans have some control over it?

Yeah, I felt that Lightningbug felt the actual mythos and feel of Godzilla movies better than the rest, but the design was just horrible and uninteresting. Fire Lion got my vote, as it also fits (anyone remember King Seesaw?) the Godzilla style, AND I can sorta see it as a guy crawling on all fours in a rubber suit, unlike the others.

Magma was... okay. I hated the visitor concept though, that big mouth and eyeless head is just so boring designwise.

Kairon:  I saw the images of The Other, and didn't even read the story.  I passed it by because it was just silly.

I had wished the bug design was better too.  Giant Bugs as Giant Monsters is an important part of those movies.  With the Giant Spider and the Giant Praying Mantis being my favorites.

Agree.  I probably would have voted for the bug but a little more interesting story and a better design probably would have done it.  Shoot if I would have saw how it looked in motion it might have been my vote.  The concept is cool and the design is ok.  If the can pull everything off they mention in the description it could have been a cool character.

I hope in the end they allow to either:
A) Download the other from online by winning them or something
B) Make them Super Secret unlockables.

Personally, and especially after looking at the "original" designs, I very much wish they had just kept the game with the already existing Toho characters. There are more then enough left that weren't featured in the previous two games to last the series awhile at its current rate of adoption.

What makes me sad, though, is that we know that two of the fighters in Unleashed will be "original", while the early projection was to have "16+" total characters... compared with the 18 in Save the Earth. In the past, those figures have been very close to the actual amount (the previous game was going to have 19, so they stated 18+ before one was cut). This time, I assume it will be larger then that, but it doesn't leave a whole lot of room for a big increase in the actual Toho characters over the last game.

So yeah, color me disappointed. These guys look too much like scrapped characters for Incognito's "War of the Monsters" then actual creatures from the Godzilla movies... but then again I am a diehard fan and perhaps these types of things matter to me more then most.

It's been stated that whoever wins will be modified to look better before the games's release and also that the names are just placeholders and will be changed.  I'm almost positive that They're going to use WiiConnect 24 to allow extra dowloadable monsters after the game is relesed So you don't have to worry about the lack of Toho Monsters Arbok.

I'd love to see "The Visitor" as the new monster, grabbing his apponent and stabbing him with it's pincers just seems so Godzilla-y.
