It looks like the public off-shoot of the old E3 will be worth attending after all.

Game industry site Gamasutra has learned that heavyweights Nintendo and Sony will be attending the newly formed E For All Expo, which will be taking place in Los Angeles from October 18-21.  The two console makers join other confirmed exhibitors such as G4, DirecTV, the World Series of Video Games and Future Publishing.    

Even though the show was recognized by the ESA, gaming's governing body, before this revelation, now that two of the three major players in video games will be at the show, there's no doubt that it's going to have a place along side all the other major industry shows.    

The difference with E For All, of course, is that it's open to the public.  It won't be free; ticket prices are still being determined.  Additionally, so far it seems that E For All will be smaller than E3 was, since it will be held only in the LACC's South and Kentia halls.  The old show filled the whole building.    

Also, according to the latest show update on GamePro.com (which is owned by IDG Entertainment, the same company running the expo), the show plans on renting out the Hollywood sign for the show and replacing the 'Y' on the famous sign with the 'e' of the E For All Expo's logo.  How's that for making your presence known?

The wording here makes it sound as though E for All is a replacement for E3. It's not, but it is endorsed by the ESA. E3 has become the "E3 Media and Business Summit", and takes place this July.

Also, how is Gamepro magazine still around? From my memories of how bad it was ~10 years ago, I can't believe it still has any subscribers at all.

Yeah, we realize that it's not E3, but when its in the same building it's easy to compare the two.

And by the way, that stunt with the Hollewood sign better not happen.  I do not want to see that eyesore.  Imagine coming to the city for the first time from some place like Germany.  You want to take a snapshot of the Hollywood sign, but whoops, you planned your vacation during the week of some unknown geekfest and the sign is mis-spelled.

Errr... am I the only one who thinks the Hollywood sign is an eyesore to begin with?

Eyesore or not, it's a piece of the city's history and I don't think any Los Angeles native wants to see the sign desecrated for some up and coming Dork-a-thon, of all things.
