Hi guys!

Just like to say Hi to everyone as it's my first post on here.

I'm from Scotland and yesterday took advantage of a generous offer at Argos www.argos.co.uk for a Gamecube at just £78.99 (roughly $100 I think?) complete with Luigi's Mansion and a free official memory card.

I'd just like to know what's everyone's opinion on the console.  How come it's so cheap?  Is Nintendo stopping support for it or something?

Anyway, again, hello to everyone!

heh, no nintendo isn't stopping support, but the sales in europe have been less than sterling which was the reason for the price drop, infact a number of big nintendo titles are coming out very soon, so you picked a good time to grab your console

Hey yo. [/obscure former WWE wrestler reference]

The reason why the 'Cube is so cheap compared to the PS2 and Xcrap is because it doesn't have CD/DVD playback. And thank God, too.

If I were you, I'd pick up a copy of Smash Bros Melee or Eternal Darkness. Those are a must for any 'Cube owner. So is Metroid Prime and Skies of Arcadia Legends, but those should't be out in Scotland yet....

congratulations, you made a good choice, the reason the GCN was so cheap is in fact due to poor sales, not due to Nintendo stopping support, not by a long shot. You bought the system just in time to be able to buy the games coming out in the next few months. Nintendo took time to port its games so you will get them one after another. Metroid Prime and Zelda WW should be out very soon and close to each other.

Good choice choosing Gamecube. I've had it for over a year and its by far the best system i've played. I suggest getting Star Fox and/or Metroid Prime. SSBM too...its in my opinion the best game on NGC so far...

Have fun with your Gamecube

Congrats for getting such a good deal. Did you get a Wave-bird with it? If not, then you should consider one.

Enjoy the current systems while we can.
Dark times ahead will see competition from the Sony PS35, the Microsoft NeXt-X-box 2007 Professional Edition XP, and of course, the Nintendo Fun-Tetrahedron-256.

Heyyy

Thanks guys, there's plenty to look forward to then!

Today I bought SSX Tricky and Die Hard: Vendetta really cheap!  Top games.

And hopefully though Nintendo speed up the PAL conversions of games!!

Hey, let us know what you really think of Die Hard:Vendetta (gameplay and control details and all).  Its low price makes me wonder if I should pick it up.

Metroid's out on Friday here.  Same release dates as the rest of the UK for those who didn't know...

I'm thinking of trading in Die Hard to be honest.  It's pretty dire.  It's nothing special to look at and the control system's just a little too fiddly for my liking...I'm not too keen on using two sticks to move around.

Hopefully my next Cube purchase will be more fruitful.

Sorry man I would have informed you about Die Hard in advance it was quite disappointing. What types of games do you normally prefer? Is Timesplitters 2 out there, if so I'd suggest it. TS2 is a very good game. Oh and buy Metroid on Friday

Your first sentence makes no sense.  How does not having CD/DVD-reading software keep prices lower?  It's just software.  It's free.

Your second sentence doesn't make any sense.  Why is it good that you can't play CDs/DVDs in your game console?  I always found it VERY handy to play movies in my PS2.  That way I need not buy or waste space storing a separate piece of equipment.  So can you explain why you say "thank God [the 'Cube doesn't play CD/DVDs]"?

1) i wasn't bashing, just pointing out a fact
2) i thought it was common knowledge release dates go NTSC first then a few months later PAL
3) theaveng fix your netconnection or what ever mr 5 posts

i belive its good that there isn't cd/dvd playback in the gamecube for a few reasons
1) a waste of money if you already have a dvd player
2) the ps2 (not sure about xbawx) dvd player isn't that great
3) keeps the gamecube smaller
etc etc, i prefer hardware specific devices (cd players for cds, dvd players for dvds, gamecubes for games) as they are optimised for said mediums, not generalised to acomidate all of them

Umm, theaveng, 6 posts in one minute in the same thread about exactly the same thing is going a bit overboard dont ya think?
