Then, you have to go read Svevan's Launch story
I spent my launch sitting inside a warm Wal-Mart on a beanbag chair, playing FF3 DS, talking with fellow Nintendo fans and chatting up MILFs about what kind of accessories they'd need to buy in addition to the Wiis themselves. I got there 8 hours early, though.
After getting the Wii, I went home and played Redsteel with my teenage friend, Devin, until 6 AM or so. I still remember the ear to ear grin that crossed my face the first time I beat a guy in a swordfight.
That was also the same night one of my roommates came home so drunk off his ass that he collapsed in the bathroom and I hoisted him on my back and carried him to his room. I can lift 175 lbs. without much issue, but it's so much more awkward to move a human where the weight is all over the place. Sam Fisher makes that sh*t look deceptively easy.
I had a 2nd Wii reserved at Gamestop which I sold to my brother. On Dec. 21st, I got lucky and called a Wal-Mart around noon which had 4 Wiis fresh off the truck, flew down and got one for my GF. Cap didn't make it there in time to get one for his sister, sadly.
On Jan 21st, I lined up outside Bestbuy in sub-freezing temperatures with Cap and my teenage friend (both of whom I had given $$$ beforehand) and we scored three Wiis. One went to Pap, the other to a coworker who had wanted one since he tried mine at our company Christmas party and the last one was bought by Devin.
That's a total of 6 Wii's I've personally purchased, and every single time I've basically fought tooth and nail to get one, even into January.
I'm sure the NWR staff realizes their error, but I'm not mad at them or anything (I would have been if I listened to them about the Wii situation, though...).
