IGN's preview for Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse says this:

"Just in case all the gore isn't enough to secure an M rating, 3DO has seen fit to include something we're sure you'll all be interested in: naked breasts. Jesse, the prostitute NPC who helps Abaddon overcome Pestilence, wears a sort of fishnet shirt that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. We're talking exposed nipples here, kids."

I've got a feeling that my opinion on this is not the popular one, but this just kinda epitomises what I hate about the gaming industry nowadays. Perhaps its IGN that's gone to pot though. Oh well, I just wanted to complain somewhere.

I'm inclined to think that it's IGN talking up something that is really not all that big a deal.  I mean, a fantasy RPG could have a "real" Succubus, and I'm sure all IGN would find to talk about is the naked breasts and nipples on "that flying demon chick".

But then again, it IS 3DO. I mean, if they're not desperate to sell SOMETHING, they should be. Poor Trip Hawkins.

i wouldn't be jealous of IGN if i was rick, most annoying convoluted site ever (even though i still get some insider stuff from my mates account )

Planetgamecube.com > IGN.com hands down

but back on the subject, if the NPC is a prostitute, then i dont really have a problem with a bit of nudity, it makes it... ehm.. "tastefull" (also logical) but if every second person has their norgs hanging out be a bit stupid and turn me off the game

I'm usually immediately on my high-horse about quality over boobelage, and that its never been anything but a way to get guys to tolerate what is otherwise utter trash.

If the Horsemen really is a mature title, and by mature I mean themed - not simply blood, guts and boobs, and has MANY redeeming qualities - then I'll take the partial nudity as I would a movie.  Problem is, I cant think of too many good films that at the end I say "Man! the scene with the topless woman came along at just the right time to help develop the characters and storyline."

Either way, kids are gonna play it.  Hate to see an anticipated title go the cheap-n-sleazy route.

It's not a big deal.

If you're gonna get on your high horse about nudity in videogames, might as well bash movies too.

It's only worth frowning upon if the game has nothing going for it but nudity. Then, it's just a porn game, for lack of a better description.

Sorry but there is nothing tasteful about prostitution, or nude prostitutes.  Let's just hope the game kicks arse, and hope this is just a cheap hook to grab all the loser casual "gamers".

perhaps you dont understand me, obviously the game is set somewhere in history and say you walk into a town you see a black smith? no problem, a priest? no problem a prostitute? oh no that cant be there moan moan moan

my point is, if shes hanging around a bar or something, then it makes sence for her to be there, and obviously a prostitute isn't going to be in a full length ball gown, shes going to be showing some skin, and if its done correctly then its not really a problem, its just adding to the atmosphere of the time the game is set, and like i said alternatively if every female NPC is a big breasted wench with their gear out for all to see, then the developers have just done that to hook in horny little teenagers.

please try to understand my point of veiw, regardless if you think prostitution is good or bad, they do exist, and have done for a great number of years so having one that actually assists with the story (as it would apear in this game) isn't a bad thing at all

On the nose.

Though obviously a controversial issue, prostitutes have been in a lot of video games.  Thankfully, a lot of companies have done a good job of putting them in their proper places in regards to the theme of the games. Baldur's Gate is a good example.

in the ancient days prostitution wasnt considered so taboo. So they could hang out anywhere. Thier a whore no matter where they go...why would you want to hang at a bar....are there even bars? People drank but things werent liek they are noiw.

Acutally, it's more a difference of opinion.  IGN is pointing out something that really doesn't NEED to be pointed out because it's provacative and will entice their readers.  I just don't get it.  A good game is a good game regardless of the amount of NIPPLES in it.  NIPPLES don't make a game BETTER, either.  (See: BMX XXX, or DOA:XBV)

So why on earth would IGN even bother mentioning that point?  As I said, it's was purely for the sake of enticing their readers.

This is supposed to be a game with a dark and seedy atmosphere so I don't think having prostitutes in it is inappropriate. Also I thought this was supposed to be set in a modern time setting. In one of the pics at IGN it shows a morgue with what looks like a cop in it.

Hehehehe.... boobies....  *drool*  Nah, just kidding.  I am a GameCube owner, not an Xbox owner.  I have control over my hormones.  But seriously, I visit IGN like once a month.  I visit PGC several times a day.

what do you guys have against boobs anyways? i'd totally agree with you if it was the only reason to buy the game, but it's not. the game looks really good. and besides, it was ign that made a big deal about it. get mad at them, not the game.

First off I am not an IGN "fanboy" nor am I a PlanetGameCube "basher" but I strongly disagree with Ricks point of veiw of how IGN should post news.

If you know a game needs more attention then it is getting why wouldn't you add a point that would attract more readers. This is something that every good journalist all over the world does, IGN is not the first ever to throw something into a story to get more readers looking. If they lied and said the game had nudity and it really didn't then yes I would agree that they are only throwing in nonsense that shouldn't be in their GAME COVERAGE but they didn't and therefore it is a good peice of information that somebody (maybe not you personally Rick) would like to know. That is after all what IGN is, they are an internet site that covers gaming news from around the world. Nudity in a game is news so therefore they should add it to their PREVEIW for a game. What if a reader was wondering, "hmmm, I wonder if there is nudity in this game?" and was never informed about that fact and bought the game for his son? Then that reader would think "I wonder why IGN didn't mention that in their PREVEIW?" IGN went and said the new like this

Quote

Just in case all the gore isn't enough to secure an M rating, 3DO has seen fit to include something we're sure you'll all be interested in: naked breasts.

to attract readers as you/Rick and myself have already mentioned. If they had gone the "route" of PGC they would say something like "the game has nudity but nevermind that lets get back to the blood which makes me sick just thinking about (this game is so bad)", I don't think people would be as attracted to the article if they saw that. People look out for interesting things (nudity in games being a major contributor to this because the fact is that a lot of readers on online gaming news sites are between the ages of 13 - 17 and want to hear about these things). When I go onto the internet I skim a few GCN sites and look for the most interesting parts of news and read only those articles because I am busy and I don't want to be here for 2 hours reading every single thing. Just because you may be scared of the word BREASTS or NUDITY or NIPPLES doesn't mean other (kids-teens) people are not interested in hearing more on the subject. PLUS it is not everyday that (a "so-called" kiddy system) Gamecube gets a game with nudity in it. So I 100% agree with the way IGN went about sending the GAMING NEWS out to the reader in hopes to maybe have a few more people read the article then previously would have without their added "naughty words"
