Disc reading error?
« on: March 14, 2003, 08:15:59 PM »
What is wrong with a GC if it has a "disc reading error"? I have seen this problem many times, but have no idea what is wrong. Most of the people say that it either comes up with an error message saying it can not read the disk, or it plays for awhile, but soon freezes. What is wrong? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you might need to clean your lens.

give nintendo a call, provided your cube is still under warrenty, no point risking voiding it by trying to fix it your self when you can get it done professionally by the good folk at nintendo

how could one who is no longer under warranty fix this problem?
Edit: would regular Lens paper work? it seems like it would make the problem worse
I'll shut up now...

You have to go to a Gamecube autorized repair shop. There is a two year warrentee on the machine. Its not that expensive usally to have things fixed. (But it does take time)
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

I do know that the hardware in the system is unbalanced in almost all of the launch systems making the disks spin wierd and unbalanced (causeing audio skip in dialogue such as the problem in ED) but I am not sure if this also has to do with a disk read error. I do know that when I play ED for to long I get that same error and yes I have a launch system.

I know that lens cleaner is most definately (99%) not the answer. I had a similar problem with my dearly departed Dream Cast. When I played Shenmue it would freeze whenever the game was loading a new area, half the time never getting out of my room at the very beginning. I tried a lens cleaner but it didn't work and I still have the same problem with that game and sometimes other games cant be read on it. BTW I made it to the 2nd disk in Shenmue but I gave up on it, had to keep restarting over and over at the same spots and got repetitively boring.
