Guitar Hero Wii in Activision's FY08 Plans
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:25:22 PM »
The publisher is also looking to "agressively target the Nintendo platforms."

During a recent confrence call, Activision President and CEO Mike Griffiths said that the publisher is planning to bring a game in the Guitar Hero series to the Wii by the end of their fiscal year, March 31, 2008.  He believes that releasing more games from Activision's stable on Wii, Guitar Hero included, is an important part of their strategy.

"The key difference in our strategy versus the prior cycle is that in addition to full support on Sony and Microsoft platforms, we will agressively target the Nintendo platforms consistent with our multiplatform strategy and Nintendo's expected growth," said Griffiths.  "In fiscal 2008, we'll double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spiderman, Shrek, Transformers and Guitar Hero."

Griffiths has already tasted success with Nintendo's new console.  Thanks to being "one of the first publishers to go deep on the Wii," Activision is the number two third-party publisher on the system, thanks in part to having three of the top 10 best-selling Wii games.  "It paid off," said Griffiths.

On a Wii-related note, Activision also mentioned that they will be porting the Wii launch title, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, to the PlayStation 2.

This is worst news I have heard all day. Guitar Hero should die.

Either you've never played it or you have bad tastes in rhythm games...

Because from what I've played of it, it, as they say, rocks.
I find the lack of sig images annoying. I have this nice image I use as my sig in all my other forums and I can't use it here.  So instead I'll just complain...

This really is awesome news.  I've wanted to get a PS2 for sometime to play Guitar Hero but I just don't have the money to invest into such a thing.  But if really does come out for Wii, I'll be picking this up on day one.

Any news about Nintendo getting more 3rd party support is a great thing.  And Guitar Hero is one of the best party games around.  Also it does a very good job of allowing lots of non-gamers to play the game.  Something the Wii has also focused on.  With that in mind, it seems to be a perfect match.

Porting a game developed with the Wii's controller in mind to the PS2 is a sure fire way to show your support to Nintendo, yes.

I just want to point out Transformers.  Does Activision mean the Cartoon or the new Live action?

They better make a wireless guitar controller and not some stupid attachment to the controller. And I wonder how the DS version will be, touch screen controls can't work so it will probably be like playing with a ps2 controller.

The poorly worded statement by the Activision guy doesn't say there will be a Guitar Hero game on the DS, just that there will be games on DS and Wii, followed by a list. Guitar Hero will be coming to Wii, not DS.

Also, anyone who wants Guitar Hero to die hasn't played it. Go ahead and respond and say you've played it, I don't believe you.

The thing that made Guitar Hero not fun was the corded controller. Total thrillkill.

If you can't imagine yourself jumping around like a real Rock Star then the game is just a more frustrating rhythm game with no point.

"The thing that made Guitar Hero not fun was the corded controller."

I've never played Guitar Hero (though I want to) so I don't know exactly what it's like but often with a real guitar you're tethered to your amp so I don't see why having a corded guitar controller would ruin the feeling.

For anyone saying Guitar Hero sucks regardless of that this is a big title that got a lot of attention on the PS2 and it's a great sign if it's coming to the Wii.

He has played it. I'm guessing it just seems really lame if you play real guitar. This game is a waste of plastic.

I suck so hard at this game that it makes my previous experience with piano lessons look like I was Mozart.

This game does not exist for me.

A friend of mine hated GH, and couldn't play if his life depended on it, he was getting like 75% on the first few songs on Easy difficulty.  But he has lots of female friends who love to play, and they were able to, ah, convince him to continue playing.  He quickly improved and started playing on his own, now he's finished Medium and is starting Hard.

GH is one of those games you have to give more than 15 minutes to see if you're going to like it or not.

Let me repharse that. I suck so hard at GH, a million dollars couldn't make me get any better

I can play almsot any game at a high level, hell I consider myself a bit of a sado in regards to games, actively seeking out hard games. But my one kyptonian like weakness, any game requiring for anything other than a short period of time, a beat. I can't play music games period. I "cheat" at sing star by manually manipulating my vocal cords. I can't dance, even with my fingers. When I had piano lessons I couldn't read notes on the fly, so I converted them to ABC and used notes as spacers. Then I memerized entire sheets a bar at a time. At that point I could reproduce it as fast or as slow as I wanted to. playing music is something I can't do.

It isn't a hand/eye problem as I play badminton and every other game out there easy as pie. I just don't get music games. I could memerize the entire squence given enough time, but I wouldn't be able to match the timing.

Oh, I've played it. I even owned it for a day or two (I returned it).

It's just as Mario said, I just get no enjoyment out of it. It's too boring compared to playing a real guitar.
