Why Wii play is worth it...
« on: January 25, 2007, 06:39:41 AM »
...For those that want extra controllers.

Yes, I know that many people have reach the same conclusion. The deal is good. But how good is it?

I made mention to my mom that if we wanted a second controller for our Wii Wii play is a good deal.

We did the math and everything.

A Wiimote sets you back 40 bucks. Along with the nun chuck, the overall controller sets you back 60 bucks.

Wii play is priced at 50 bucks (according to my understanding). If you do the math, you are getting a Wiimote for 40 bucks and the game itself for 10 bucks. If you look at it this way, Wii play becomes even better of an investment. You get an extra controller and a neat little game to boot.

I know some people are not interested in the game, but again even if the game isn't all that great you are getting it for 10 bucks.

So if you can't find any Wiimotes sold separately Wii play is your best bet.

GameTrailers made the exact same point, and added that since there are nine mini-games in Wii Play which is ten bucks, that's only slightly more than a dollar per game!

It would've been nice if Nintendo could think up a tenth game, just to make it easier.

I knew many would reach the same conclusion. Its frankly far too good of a deal to miss.

Wii play sounds like the type of game that is very fun, but not worth the 50 dollar price tag (and Nintendo seems to have noticed that). The game is basically even more of an intro to the Wii than Wii sports was and I know that many gamers by principle will not buy it alone. But the Wiimote addition makes it even more appealing.

Even if the game doesn't become a major hit with some gamers and families the purchase would've been worth it.

Indeed.  They're E3 demoes, essentially.

My very first experience with the Wii was at E3 where I played a game of "Obstacle Course" against my brother.  It was a scrolling course, which included silhouettes like Wii Play's "Pose Mii" game, where turning the Wii Remote to match the Mii's position was one of the things you could do along the way...for more points or to gain time, I don't remember.  You also had to collect coins and avoid fiery/zappy things which made you lose coins, if memory serves.  My brother beat me by one second and one coin.

It was fun (and a good intro to the sensitivity of the Wii Remote), and it should've been made into a tenth Wii Play game, but then if they did, maybe no one would play Pose Mii, which was clearly derived from it.

But I already have three Wii controllers and I wonder if I should hold off for my fourth to see if they come out with a Wiimote revision.

Yep, that's how I look at it. $10 for Wii Play seems about right.

It won't be hard to find soon, 'round here wiimotes were sold out while entire shelves were still full with Wii Play. Mostly because a Wii owner can buy up to three Wiimotes but at most one Wii Play.

Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

Has anyone been able to find wii play?

I called Best Buy like an hour before I got there and they said they had 8 copies, when I got there, I got the last one.  Do you think Wii Play will hit a top ten list from everyone buying it, or is it just a really hard game to find cause that there arn't many copies of them released?

By the way, Why the hell do I have to play the first game and score a certain amount before I can go on and play the second game....and so on, and so on, before i can play all 9 games?  That is Bullcrap, when are game developers going to stop doing this crap!!!!!!!  I Just bought the game, I'M pretty sure that entitles me to go home, pop it in, and play first what the hell ever dam game I wana play first, even if it's the 9th game.

There are certain E3 demos I'd pay $10 for standalone... like that DS wood block carving demo...

If you are talking about the conductor and/or drums demo, those might be coming soon under the "Wii Music" name.

Are you sure you need a certain score? When I was playing it the other night I got 0 points on a few games and it still unlocked the next game.

The review here on NWR has made me cautious.  I don't usually base purchases off of reviews but it confirmed what I thought about the simplicity of the games.

Since I don't feel a pressing need to get a third controller, I don't think I'm really in a hurry to get the game right away.  But when I do need a third controller, at some point in the future, I will most likely be picking up Wii Play.

Score points? I don't think the score matters, I scored 0 points (because it doesn't accept negative numbers) on Billiards and still got the next game. It's intended to show you each game at least once and in the order of increasing complexity.

What annoys me more is that you can't get medals on your first playthrough, no matter how high your score.
