New GDC Speakers Announced
« on: January 18, 2007, 05:23:02 PM »
Directors Keiichi Yano (Elite Beat Agents) and Goichi Suda (Killer 7) will storm Game Developers Conference 2007.

Today the fine folks behind Game Developers Conference 2007 revealed the latest additions to its list of sessions—two of which should be of interest to Nintendo fans.

Keiichi Yano, the loveable co-founder of iNiS, will be discussing the transition from import cult classic Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! to one of last year's best games, Elite Beat Agents.  Titled "From 'Ouendan!' to 'HELP!': Inside the Elite Beat Agents", Mr. Yano will discuss the localization choices made for EBA, as well its game design.

Those who dug the unconventional antics of Kiler 7 should also know that the game's director/writer, Goichi Suda, will also be presenting at GDC.  Critical of stagnation within the industry, Suda will present his company's approach to generating fresh gameplay and intellectual property in "Punk's Not Dead".  There's a good chance new tidbits about his upcoming Wii game, No More Heroes, too!

Be sure to read NWR during GDC '07 for all the exciting details!

Is Iwata speaking? I really liked his "Heart of a Gamer" speech.. wow, was that in 2005? It seems like yesterday.

The keynotes have not been revealed, but all signs point to yes.  I suspect we'll see one or two Nintendo directors as well.

Are any of NWR's crack reporters going to be covering the event on location?

I'm really interested in Suda 51's speech.
NWR has permission to use any tentative mockup/artwork I post

I will be there, but for my non NWR job primarily.  I hope to squeeze in as much NWR coverage as possible.

http://secondavesoftware.com

We are an educational software company who wants to get away from the constraints of education publishers and move more towards an entertainment company that makes games with strong foundations of education, but fun is far and away the big priority.  We are currently working on some demos and we hope to open up some doors at GDC this year.  A team of about 6 of us is going.

Cool, if you guys get your foot in the door and get some software out there to buy, I will definitely check it out.  I am close to being ready to have kids and having fun games which will teach them as well would be a great welcome...especially if you can get the games published onto the Wii or DS.

GDC exists for Iwata, but we haven't had a Reggie speech in quite a while now!

..."Punk's Not Dead"... It just has a bad hangover every once in a while

It'll be interesting to hear Suda speak on American soil. He seems to be the type that doesn't pull any punches. I don't remember if it was GDC or DICE when Jason Rubin of Naughty Dog made his speech/battle cry for developers respect. I wouldn't be surprised if Suda threw some jabs at some of the big boys...

So TYP, Megabye and Pale are all planning on being there, cool. I hope NWR gets some reports and interviews and pictures out of the deal.
