New news for Starcraft Ghost kinda official
« on: January 10, 2007, 11:00:12 AM »
Ok people who dont know me on here wont think nothing of this but its pretty colse to official.

My brother in law who works for this game studio, I forget the name he told me earlier but Ill ask again cuz they ahve a wierd name and I always forget, anywyas they were workign with Blizzard on the Starcraft Ghost game and he tells me that they have a brand new, not blizzard but the studio he works for, that is getting ready to release a ps3 game latter  this year, ok after that he said they are planning to finish Ghost up for a PS3 release since they spent a lot of money already on it and wanted to move it to Ps3.

The reason, accodfing to him, the current gen systems cant do patches and they really wanted that in the game, so its moving to PS3 which has a hard drive and yada yada, he also said they might port it to 360 but he says he doesnt knwo for sure. He is creating characters for the game and says that it is still in development but is facing hard times.

They said that was a aprt of the online excuse for GC getting canceled but it was mostly due to no hard drive, same reason ps2 got canceled.

Anywyas thats as much as he would tell me he has been tight lipped for a while cuz he hasnt been with them for a long time and says he is just an animator so he doesnt get a lot of the official inside stuff but he says they are at this time planning on posting it to ps3, they have already done some wokr on it and he said that it might get announced officially latter in the year but since they arent publishing it he says their info is pretty limited.

I hope this comes true because a lot of people were looking forward to this game, I mean the 360 porting not the ps3 it wont matter on ps3 I dont think. anywyas take it for what its worth it could be soon.

For anyone who doesn't want to and/or can't read that, here's a translation.

My brother-in-law is a character designer for the game studio (either Nihilistic or Swingin’ Ape) that was developing Starcraft: Ghost with Blizzard Entertainment.  He told me that the developer is currently working on an unannounced PS3 game that will be released in 2007.  Once complete, they are going to return to the Ghost project and rework it for PS3.

The reason for the platform change is because previous systems did were not conducive for releasing game play patches.  Blizzard feels patches are an important feature.  There is a possibility that the game will also be released for Xbox 360, however nothing has been determined yet.

Unfortunately, because of his position—and the fact that he is relatively new at the studio—he does not have much concrete information regarding a release timeframe.  There is a chance that the project will be announced as officially resurrected later this year.

Personally, I hope this information is true; I have been interested in this game since it was originally announced.  If I do play it, it will most likely be on Xbox 360, as I am currently not interested in PS3.

Take this information with a grain of salt.

I think it's vaporware, or whatever you want to call it.  Unreleased and never will be.

I think it's funny that some big-name vaporware has a title that already spelled doom for itself.  The Phantom.  Dead Phoenix.  (I think there was another Capcom game with "Dead" in it that got picked up and published by someone else...was it Dead Revolver or something?)   Duke Nukem Forever (as in it takes forever to develop).  StarCraft: Ghost.

By that logic we will never see a game called "Forever Stillborn Imaginary Ghost-Things".  Or we'll see it, but never play it.

Anyway, does anyone care about StarCraft anymore?  I'm sure a "Worlds Of StarCraft" might sell based on name alone but WarCraft was always the bigger franchise and most Blizzard fans are PC gamers or RPG/RTS gamers who wouldn't care about an action-adventure game designed for a console, even if it was also for the PC.

Do you know what I'm going to be if they don't release Sadness?

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that Ghost missed its window.

Also, it's not entirely accurate. Eternal Darkness came out.

I don't think anyone cares about StarCraft Ghost anymore but they do still care about StarCraft.  People still play StarCraft now.  Years and years went by between WarCraft II and III but it still sold well and now WarCraft is huge again.  StarCraft II would be an event for PC gaming.  Everyone would buy it.  Plus with Blizzard it's almost like the Blizzard name itself is the selling point.  They have never released a bad game since they changed their name to "Blizzard" and every game is a big hit.  They're the Pixar of gaming.  Every game they release is an event.  People buy the games because it's Blizzard.  They could release a new IP at any time and I think it would become just as big as WarCraft, StarCraft and Diablo.

I think part of the reason Ghost has disappeared is because Blizzard felt it wasn't up to par so they canned it.  I think there was some WarCraft adventure game in development years ago that Blizzard canned, despite the money already invested in the game, because they felt keeping their brand name strong was more valuable than releasing a sub-standard game to try to make up development costs.

Blizzards making way too much money to release another game. A developer for another company who was a guest speaker at my club speculated that Diablo 3 was already cancelled because it wouold just cannibalize WoW's numbers.

Also, Star Craft Ghost still in development? It doesn't really matter, because Blizzard fansd, like Nintendo fans, should be used to waiting 4-6 years for their games.

I think another reason for Ghost's cancellation might have been that it's obviously aimed at people who have played Starcraft but those are mostly PC RTS gamers, not console shooter players.

Other games don't necessarily compete with WoW and even if, inactivity would allow for somebody else to take that place. They are producing more games since they need to, if WoW stopped being the hottest MMO around someday they would be hit unprepared and with Blizzard game development can take 5 years, if they start with that when WoW is on its last leg they'll be bankrupt by the time they can release the next game.

 Nihilistic? Hmm...

They were the first developers of SC:Ghost when it was first announced. Then around the summer of '03 or so, depending on who you ask, Nihilistic was either taken off the project for 'quality' reasons, or their 'portion' of development was done. There wasn't a clear answer to that. Then Swinging Ape of Metal Arms fame was announced as the new developer since Sierra is Blizzard's parent company. Then cue the 'delayed indefinatley' press release.

In short, I don't believe Nihilistic is working SC: Ghost until they officially say otherwise.

People still play StarCraft now.

Not to mention its basically a professional sport in South Korea. Star Craft stands the test of time. Hell I still have my CD from 1998 when I was a high school sophomore...

That was Warcraft: Lord of the Clans. It looked liked something like the Zelda series from the Cd-i days when they showed the trailers. Eventually, they put some of the story in the Orc's portion of Warcraft III.

With Blizzard on the eve of releasing an expansion for WoW, they're sitting pretty for at least another 2 years. They can sit back and collect the money if they want to, but it'd be nice to see something new before the end of the decade...

I still care about Starcraft: Ghost, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy a PS3 to play it.

Ok he said they arent working on it anymore I misunderstood the first time. but he knows people who are/were. thats all he would say, he doesnt want to get in trouble and its probably rumors anyways but still interesting. I asked again what teh ps3 game is called but he said it doesnt have a name yet and it will also be on 360 so I wont have to get a ps3 to play it.

Maybe he will be cool and buy everybody 360s so we can check out his game. who knows.

Its funny cuz I knew he was developing games for a while but never knew who he worked for cuz its a hrd name to remeebr and we dont talk much. I get most of my info from his other brother.
