Wrestling games on wii?
« on: December 07, 2006, 03:23:35 PM »
I just bought Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 for my ps2 and love it.  This brought up the question, how will wrestling games translate to the wii remote?  I ask this because love or hate wrestling games, they make for great multiplayer fun and I love their games.  As I type this, I am trying to think of how it could translate, and I can't think of anything unless a GC or Classic Controller are used.  Any ideas from anyone here?

Well, now you got my gears going. you could use the wiimote and nunchuk. both have accelerometers, so they could be your virtual hands. use the joystick to move around. one button on each (B and Z for example's sake) could be a kick button, which would need to be depressed to make a movement be a kick. use the movement of the controllers as hand and foot movements. You could use C and A for grapple moves, and the movement of the wiimote and nunchuk for special moves.

That is just something i pulled out of nowhere. I hope it makes some degree of sense

Or we could just use the classic controller, which would make everyone a lot happier. =D

I'm praying for a Day of Reckoning 3 to be on the Wii, and online-enabled.

In all honesty that does make pretty good sense.  Though I am not sure how easy or practical it would be in reality.  It is a good thought though.  Its certainly more then I could think of.

I'd love to see them do something new.  Wrestling games as they stand are kind of boring/annoying.  I have Day of Reckoning and whenever I play it with someone we spend way more time creating characters than wrestling because learning all of the controls is too hard and without learning them it degrades into minutes of button mashing to get your stupid wrestler up off the mat.

There are solutions to the control problems without even adding Wii controls, but I believe Wii controls could solve the problems even more elegantly.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Wrestlemania 2000 would be killer on the VC.  Personally Id love to see along with WM2k, No mercy and even WCW Revenge.

hmm, it would be just like Wii boxing except you would use the triggers to grapple, once grapled a button press and a gesture would do signature moves

hmm maybe during a grapple u could aim low for weak moves such as a "fireman's carry" and then aim up to do "suplex", and depending on the direction that u are pressing on the joystick it would determine what move u did in the weak or strong category.

Hope that makes sense.

oh and of course being on the recipient of a submission would have to shake both controllers, and the submissioner could pull back on the controllers simulating pulling back someone's leg in a sharpshooter.  Going even further, if u sway ur controller left to right u could shake ur opponent such as in a sleeper hold or Kurt Angle's Ankle lock, of course all should be done 1:1, no pre done animations.

Okay and lastly but not least I'd like to see the pointing function used for things such as aiming where to throw people.  This could be used for throwing an oppenent into your tag team member or throwing a character through a particular spot up top of a hell in a cell match.

what do u guys think?  These are only my first initial thoughts, I probably could think of some better stuff after awhile of thought.

I've actually been wondering something along these lines lately.

It seems like most sports games would work best on the Wii, from Boxing to Baseball to Golf, even Volleyball would be possible. However, I've been starting to play my copy of FIFA 2005 a lot lately and been wondering how that would work. Soccer doesn't really seem all that compatible with the Wii Remotes or nunchuk.

i'd be more than satisfied if we got something in the vein of FirePro

use wiimote as  classic controller (sideways)
shake to break submissions/keep opponent locked in move
I'll shut up now...

I don't know about controls, but I also hope they keep the Day of Reckoning line on a Nintendo console.. Even though its roster sizes were smaller than those on the Smackdown series, gameplay wise DoR is a much, much better series. When you have three other friends who are all as good as you, the matches are awesome.

One is definitely coming, that's for sure.

I have the feeling that they will include GC controller options just to please the hardcore, while creating a quirky controller setup using the Wiimote.

What I like about this is that this sort of game wouldn't have been made for the GC. I mean, Spike is heavily advertised as being a guy channel, and you can bet your nuts that a game based on a Spike franchise will be advertised towards men. Again, this type of game would have never been made for the GC.

How is it hard to figure out the controls? You customize the controls for every wrestler you create!

Also, will everyone stop talking about 1:1 control? It isn't possible. Position can't be detected unless the Wiimote is pointed at the sensor bar.

I was worried about these games as well as fighting games, so far DBZ BT2 has proven that fighting games work fantasticaly on Wii so I suspect Wii can do wrestleing games the same as that.
