I'm interested in purchasing SoA and I'm an avid player of RPG's (I've beaten almost every Final Fantasy game), but I'm unsure whether it'll be worth my money.

I've only played the Dreamcast version but you should definitely buy it. Great game (40 hours+), amazing cast of characters, unique setting, good graphics (if a bit dated), good extras apparently (haven't played legends). But a great RPG, many people consider it the best next-gen RPG before last month's PS2 bombardment of quality.

Last week I picked up this game.  I am also an avid player of RPGs and have played almost every Final Fantasy. There have not been enough RPG type games on Nintendo systems as of late. So far, SOA has been great.    I have not finished it yet, but up to this point, I have few complaints.  I never had a Dreamcast so I couldn't experience SOA then, but I am glad I paid the $50 to have the experience now.

I like how skies of arcadia gives the player an uplifting hero, its a welcome change from heros like manic-depressed Cloud or awkwardly girlish Tidus.

Great game by the way, buy it.

If you even remotely like RPGs you should get this game.  I generally find RPGs to be tedious, too long, and boring and I had a blast playing Skies of Arcadia Legends (I only rented it though I may buy it later).  It's well worth the money.

hahahaha i agree with u on tidus, but manic depressive characters are tight. o yea and soa is bad ass. it seems like a must buy for an rpg fan.

How's the music in the game? I don't know why but music is a big deal with me in RPG's.

I really liked the Dreamcast version, although at the same time I found the random battles really annoying. However, with Legends I heard they lowered the ratio of random battles and the ratio is bearable now (I didn't play it yet).

The music is very nice and has an upbeat feel to it.

And yes, the upbeat atmosphere of Skies of Arcadia Legends is a great change to occur. Not enough RPGs nowadays have the adventerous and lighthearted atmosphere that Skies had, to the point that Skies of Arcadia is actually a rare breed .

The battle system itself is very well designed IMO, with a good balance with the spirit meter.

I never beat the Dreamcast version though as my file got deleted, and then I heard about Legends.

The airship battles are nice, although I found them a bit on the slow side, not sure if they sped up the pace in Legends.

I love the boss music in this game, well...   you know when you get the boss below 50% health?  And the music changes?  That songs cool

or when one of your allies is almost dead. and then you heal them, the music instantly goes from losing to winning. that was cool.

This is one of the best RPGs I've ever played.  My game clock is pushing 45 hours, and I haven't finished it yet, so it's well worth the money.  Run, do not walk, to your local store, and buy this game.

I havent' played any RPGs at all except Pokemon and a few psuedo-RPGs (Ie: Zelda, Eternal Darkness), so I'm really thinking of seeing what a 128-bit RPG can do. And judging by the recent review score of 9.5 on PGC that SoA got, I think tommorow I'm going to be 60 bucks poorer. Either that or 50 bucks if I get Megaman and Bass first.

No, I don't care about the Final Fantasy series. And yes, I know I'm a freak.

I've had Skies of Arcadia for almost two months now and I loved every minute of it!  Though FF3 is still my favorite game of all time, SoA certainly had me reminsicing on those times!
Maybe throughout the course of the game you somehow acquire one of the Goldeneye satellites. And maybe you somehow control it with your golden eye. -me

i have never liked turn based fighting. that alone has always made me stay clear of most rpg. i know SOA has turned base fighting but is it good enough to make one deal with and maybe even enjoy the turn based fighting?

I gave in and bought it, and it's an awesome game, aside from the stale Dreamcast graphics. I think it rocks, but my little brother says its crap. But he's only 11. So what does he know? ;

Read my sig.

Seriously though, the game reminds me of an old school Final Fantasy.  It's simply awesome, and even though I am not far, it is definately one of the best I have ever played.  (And I have played a LOT of RPGs.)

I just bought this about a week ago without a rental, which is usually my custom. In this case I made out pretty well. Grey Ninja has an interesting point there--it does remind me of old school Finaly Fantasy. The music is wonderful (am I the only one who watches the awesome intro every time I put in the game?), and the characters and story are full of adventure and fun, which was big point for me. I haven't played too many RPGs recently because the fun seems to have been zapped out of them with these overly depressing, existential stories that form there premise. I also hate the fact that many RPGs are becoming interactive movies rather than games. Thankfully, SOA has neither of these traits.

so let me ask again, if you hate turned based fighting will you hate this game?

it looks very good, but i never got into final fantasy because of the battle set up.
i have heard this game has broken many people into turn based fighting who did not enjoy it before.
