free wii points

Refresh my memory... We all know that you need Wii points to buy games from the virtual console, and you need wii cards to get wii points, but does the wii come with some free wii points already on the system when you buy it? like "Frii Points"? just so the person can wet their whistle a little bit, and get an understanding of what the VC is about? this has probably been answered already in the mailbag, but I forget
OH snap!

No free wii points. If you want Wii Points you need to buy a Wii Points card at a store or Use a credit card to buy Wii points through the shopping channel.

If you wait to buy your Wii in June Nintendo is having a special promotion giving away 5000 Wii Points with each system, and a classic controller.  It is going to be the Summer special to push more Wiis and compete with Halo 3 launching.

I'm not sure if I heard this somewhere or I'm just making it up, but regardless, it's a decent idea that I think Nintendo should use for it's wii points. Can you accumulate wii points without actually buying them, that is to say by perhaps completing a game on the most difficult setting or getting a certain percentage in a game? I think that this would be a great idea, as it rewards the toils of the bigger fans, who are the ones more likely to want to buy older games from virtual consol.

Just an idea, what do you people think?

They could also have.. say, Smash Bros online tournaments, and the winner gets some Wii Points.

Well if you want to get "free" wii points go to Wal-Mart and buy the points cards there. Nintendo charges tax on the Wii points bought online at $20.00. Wal-Mart sells the Wii points cards at 19.85 or something like that. So you are getting a few free points.

Here in AZ, buying Wii points through the Wii does not charge tax, I've already heard it is the same for some other states too.

Actually, its state by state.  Here in Tennessee if there is a physical presence here in the state, be it a store or a server, sales tax has to be charged. (Another funny law for people to chew on.  If I got to say Florida and buy something at the 7% tax rate when I come back to Tennessee I'm suppose to pay Tennessee the extra 2.75% that I didn't get charged in Florida.  Got to love Tennessee.)
