The nongamer testimonials are the ones that amaze me the most.. as one of them said (a 50 year old woman or something) she would never even consider the PS3 as an option, yet she already has 3 games for the Wii.

Two of the maybe five people who were pro-PS3 on that list were named Robert. . .
So are Roberts just prone to bad taste, or is it the same guy posting twice to try and make it seem like the PS3 has more support?

(Awesome, by the way.  After holding our breaths the entire Gamecube generation this is really, really nice.  I love it)

Nongamer testimonials amaze you most....

Don't have a LAN party or a Tupperware party, have a Wii party instead
Quote

Smith, who never enjoyed video games before the Wii, said the console has given him a new way not only to enjoy time with his wife and children, but also to socialize with his friends.

After securing his own Wii, Smith, who heads new media initiatives at a start-up, organized a "Wii Tournament" that included an hour warm-up session and a trophy for the winner. The invitation told guests: "If you have ever picked your nose or punched someone, you can get in on the fun."

Quote

"For the first time ever over the holidays all the people in my household were playing together," Kaplan said. "I know it was a first for a lot of households."

Indeed, Marusin said he was floored by how the Wii caught on not, only with his wife and friends, but also with his extended family.

"My father-in-law, who doesn't even have a debit card, was bowling," Marusin said. "That was the big talk of the family."

I haven't had a Wiiparty myself, but I have taken my Wii on tour like a traveling circus, and it was very well received. The people whose houses I've taken them to would have bought one by now if they could find one.

I'd be a lot more inclined to have a "Wii Party" if I could find a second wiimote.

Newsday.com - Getting off the couch

Quote

The sports games that come packaged with the Nintendo Wii video console are rather innocuous - there are no aliens to fry, no circuitous, rain-slicked racetracks to maneuver on, no virtual Shaq or Kobe to beat to the basket.

But playing the "Wii Sports" version of bowling for a half hour raises Mickey DeLorenzo's blood pressure, hikes his heart rate, and leaves him sweaty and exhausted.

It's not exactly Pong.

The $250 Wii, which arrived in stores in November, at about the same time as Sony's much-heralded PlayStation 3, came with a novel bit of technology that separated it from the rest of the pack: motion-sensitive play that requires gamers to act out their character's on-screen movements in real time, wielding the Wii's remote controller like a sword, swinging it like a tennis racket or ... well, rolling it like a bowling ball.

From the start, video-game addicts realized there were more benefits to these actions than simply making you hungry for more chips: Game play beefed up the biceps, flattened abs, improved cardio fitness. And, in some cases, doubled as a diet aid.

It goes on and on. Just thought I would revive this thread with more evidence that the Wii is mainstream & continuing to reach the non-gamers out there.

Quote

The buzz about Wii has created a whole culture of un-couch potatoes. In Los Angeles, parent Linda Perry has become an aggressive Wii advocate and helped attract a crowd to a "come out and play" night for Wii Sports at the posh Chateau Marmont. And more than a thousand fitness addicts have signed up for an informal Wii exercise group on a Web-based exercise site called Traineo.com, where they discuss the benefits of the game.

Quote

On the other hand, David Young, a Nintendo consumer service supervisor, told the Los Angeles Times that Wii Sports has proved a boon for people who can't exercise in conventional ways.

He cited cases of a young girl with cerebral palsy playing the games from a wheelchair, a 44-year-old man with degenerative disc problems who can bowl and golf with Wii, and a teenage boy who uses the device to rehabilitate his right arm, which was impaired by a stroke.

While PC Magazine had another article on the Wii (skiped a month this time), this time it was intitled Ode to the Wii. Were he basically said before the Wii he though he would never own a gaming console. Well the Wii changed that and he got one.

Here's another one, but this time it's a tennis school kicking back and having kids under 14 come and play!

Seriously.. one of these days we'll see a newspaper pick up on Smash_Brother's Wii parties in that bar... hmm... time to alert the press for free publicity of all involved S_B? Pap?

Sure, the PS3 can use Folding@home to folf proteins and help cure cancer, but the Wii can be used to wii-habilitate patients who've lost motor functions, just like the linked video shows of an ex-Boxer in a Canadian hospital!

The Ney York Times Again. Nintendo Changes Direction, and It Pays Off

Just one excerpt from a very long article:

Quote

The Nintendo group had come to demonstrate a prototype of the Wii, which had not then been released Wii. They handed Namco Bandai employees the unique wand-like controllers and as the developers tested a fly fishing game, the Nintendo team urged them to build game software for the console, listing arguments about why Wii would be a chance for both companies to make money.

“I had not seen that attitude from them before,” said Namco Bandai’s chief operating officer, Shin Unozawa, who was at the meeting. “Nintendo was suddenly reaching out to independent developers.”

...

But Mr. Unozawa also said Nintendo’s promotional visit in late 2005 helped make Namco Bandai more willing to write games for Wii. When he saw the Wii prototype, and then later saw a PlayStation 3 prototype, he and his colleagues decided the Wii might have more potential than the expensive and difficult-to-operate Sony machine.
