Official Wii Problems
« on: November 28, 2006, 05:52:11 PM »
My Wii I think is overheating

It has shut down three times in the past day, and feels hot, im going to let it cool down a night
keep it unplugged. If problems occur further i'll call Nintendo. Ugh this sucks, i'm 28 hours into zelda on the fourth dungeon.

actually this should be moved to technical discussion

Maybe your Wii is telling you to hurry the hell up in Zelda. 28 hours into Zelda and you're only on the fourth dungeon? I'm only 19 hours in and I just reached the fifth dungeon. You phail!

Not really. I'm sure you're taking your sweet time exploring, and I don't have the determination to do that right now. That's for the second playthrough in spring when Metroid Prime 3 gets delayed until next Christmas.

yeah im taking my time, if i beat the game and then attempt to do all the exploring then having experienced the story ill have less incentive to play and wont play. I ran through wind waker extremly fast and there is so much to do in the game, i did the same with mario sunshine, i did just enough to beat bowser and havn't touched it much since. I have to admit that for the last couple years i havent been much of a gamer. I have a backlog of gamecube games that i havn't beaten yet. I think Zelda TP awoke the gaming in me again. I feel pretty inspired lately too, hopefully i'll turn the inspiration into creativity, but i want to finish zelda first.

I'd advise you to transfer it to your PC as soon as possible just in case..

Battery compartment of the Wii remote not holding the batteries tight enough that they come loose with moderate strength "drumming" (Rayman's "Bunnies Can't Fly" for example).  The batteries come loose, breaking contact and removing power.  Hitting a face button brings it back to life temporarily.  A more permanent solution would be to slightly adjust the battery contact springs or to add a bit of padding to the back of the Wii remote cover.

I have heard of the overheating problems from a few of my friends. Apparantly, they were experiencing them during the times their system is off from WiiConnect24. I would say try disabling that feature and turning your system off directly after play. Perhaps the system is already hot from that when you boot it up, and Zelda only makes it worse. Not sure if that helps. Also, I agree with everyone else, find someway to copy your Zelda save to your HDD. Borrow one from a friend or something if you can't buy one at a decent price.

Is it sitting on carpet? Near a Heater? Is the air vent free of obstruction?

Hey Perm, is your system laying horizontal or standing upright?  I found mine got really hot when I put it horizontal on top of my family's VCR.  I took it to be the VCR, but in retrospect I bet it was the Wii.
That's my opinion, not yours.

ya, remember when on it's side the air intake is on the bottom, so if it's on carpet or a hot surface (like other running electronics).  Mines horizontal but its on a hardwood floor.  If you have it on carpet or other electronics I would try laying it flat for awhile just to see if it continues to overheat

Hey everyone, sorry to bring back an old thread but my friend is having a nasty Wii Problem.

When he plays any game, it sometimes starts to look like the game's graphics are cracking up, they start to look fuzzy and a bunch of lines show up. Like the polygons are starting to break, but dont quite do. We switched TVs, same thing, we switched games, same thing, we did the Wii Upgrade, same thing.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
