target holiday catalog
« on: November 28, 2006, 03:18:07 PM »
Just got the target holiday catalog in the mail.  After cameras and so on was a two page spread for the Wii and Nintendo DS.  On the next page was the XBox 360, and last was a page for the PSP and the PS2.  Guess what?  No mention of the PS3!!

Seeing Target putting Wii and the DS front and center this year is pretty encouraging.  This holiday season and 2007 looks like it just might be a Wii/DS sweep.

I'm guessing no special deals were inside for games or anything since u didn't mention it, but yeah Very Nice for Nintendo.  I wonder if Nintendo had a hand in doing this or did Target just realize Wii is gonna sell more/more profit for Target and PS3 v.s. the checkout out lines double mint gum are more comparable....

The catalog he's referring to is actually a catalog-type thing instead of a sales flyer, so there aren't any deals on what they're showing in it. I believe it's sent to anyone that has a Target credit card.

Still its not like they have any PS3s, or will have for a long time, so there is no reason to build up any hype for something they cant even sell.  Good news still, as hopefully they are confident enough in the supplies they will be getting so I may be able to find one soon.  Good news for Nintendo as they can easily capitalize on the unavailability of the PS3.

to me it shows that either they have no confidence that sony can give them any or that they know already that they can't get any from sony.  either way this is seriously bad for sony, it shows that for target, a major retailor, not just the launch but the entire holiday is a zero.

on the other hand, for nintendo it looks great.  I never saw the gamecube featured like that.  I can only guess that target has done market research showing a lot of interest in the Wii (it seems like Toys R Us agrees on this too).  I'm pretty psyched to see Wii do well in 2007.  XBox360 might eek out a victory in north america, but I think world wide it's looking more and more like in 2007 nintendo will simply dominate.

We'll have to see about the games first, Microsoft seems to be a gear or two ahead of Nintendo and game development for the Wii can hit a drought.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS2 continues to outsells the 360 through early 07 at least.
Currently Playing: Twilight Princess(Wii), Castlevania: PoR(DS), Mario vs. Donkey Kong2(DS), Wii sports(Wii)
Anticipating: Mario Galaxy(Wii), Blue Dragon(360), Dragon Quest:Swords(Wii), Dragon Quest IX (DS)

Does the flyer say anything.  I seem to hear rumors of a Sunday re-release at Wal-Mart, toys r us, etc.  Should I be waiting there for them to open?

no it didn't say anything, it didn't have any special deals, just the standard in-store prices.

Target has a good bit of exclusive Nintendo stuff though.  Which might handle why they are going big with the Wii advertising.

i can tell you that most targets should be doing a re-launch on sunday Dec. 3. We got another shipment in yesterday of 30 Wiis for that sunday since it is in the circular. We had 39 at launch so other Targets may be getting numbers close to what they launched with as well.

I can confirm that, I called several targets and they all said that they had them for tomorrow, but wouldnt tell me how many.  Toys r us also has them for tomorrow.  I wish I knew how early I had to get there to be sure I have one.  It was 60 last week, 30 out this week.  So much colder.
