Australians Don't Have to Deal with Crummy Wii Sports Case
« on: November 28, 2006, 03:19:32 AM »
First pictures of the Australian retail Wii reveal an actual case for Wii Sports.

IGN Australia recently got their hands on a retail version of Wii.  They took many pictures that reveal quite a bit.  For the most part, the package is exactly the same as the North American retail box.  A remote, nunchuck, and Wii Sports are all included.  The only noticeably different part is that, much to the delight of collectors, Wii Sports comes in a plastic DVD sized case like all of the other Wii games.

Click on the source link above to see all of IGN's pictures, including some interesting shots of Wii Play, controller packaging, and Zelda.

If you are in North America and this news makes you a bit jealous, don't forget you can puchase empty Wii cases from Nintendo's online store and print out a great cover from The Cover Project.

Looks like the CD cover I put together made it to the official page as well.  Top part is outside back, bottom is inside back.  Booklet is used as the front cover.

Too bad that cover isn't much good for a DVD case.  I did buy one of the white Wii cases when I ordered my component cables.  I just shoved the original slipcase under the plastic.  A bit crude, but it works.

Don't use the case that Wii Sports comes with, since it may ruin your disk. The mere act of removing the DVD from the case can put scratches into it. After a week, my Wii Sports disk became a coaster.

Luckily, Nintendo is sending me a new DVD for free... but I have spend a few weeks without the game. -_-

Why is North America the only region stuck with that crappy cardboard case? Nintendo shouls offer a DVD case/cover for free to those who want it.

I guess because Nintendo would have to produce 600,000 plus Wii game cases?  :P

There are several more covers that are good for DVD cases on the same page.  Pick your favorite.

Man, Nintendo always gives those Australians the best stuff.

I simply put my disc in a standard jewel case. Problem (unelegantly) solved.
Thanks for listening.

Maybe it's because of the extra $$$ that we need to drop on a Wii. It's probably because NAL doesn't have an online store to buy extra cases from.
