"isn't LTTP Grade A enough?"

Yeah but we aren't getting Grade A games once a week.  Some weeks we only get really weak games that Nintendo is obviously hoping will sell due to a lack of games and some weeks the only VC games are on the T-16 or Genesis.  Plus Nintendo has totally neglected the SNES and N64.  If every week Nintendo released a game for each of their three formats (the N64 can be less frequent since there are less titles but SNES games should come out at the same rates as NES games) and didn't so blatantly favour titles that have been re-released recently (ie: maybe we'll buy them twice) then there wouldn't be as many complaints.  Right now it seems like they're sucking on purpose to try to get us to buy NES games we already got for free in Animal Crossing.

I do agree that VC releases could be a bit more bountiful. Nintendo releases could be scaled back once third party support ramps up (I'm more interested in those since I've played many of the Nintendo games, sometimes as remakes or rereleases).

The sad part is that original content releases will probably kill retro game sales.

"your assuming everyone bougth animal crossing, a very false assumption ian."

Yeah but the obvious intention is to focus on games re-released recently in hope that those that did buy those games in a re-release will buy them again.  If titles like Super Metroid or Earthbound were released first it's more likely that those people would buy those more obscure games first and then when Super Mario Bros. came out they wouldn't give it as much attention.  They just bought a version of it recently and they've fed the urge to try out the VC with games that they don't already own or used to own ten years ago.

You see this sort of thing all the time.  Some bands release a greatest hits every couple of years, even when no new material has been released in between to justify a new compilation.  And they make sure the different compilations have overlapping tracks and don't compliment each other because they want to trick people into buying the same stuff as long as possible.  They have enough songs to make a compilation that is totally unique from the others BUT they try to get you to buy the same stuff for as long as possible before bringing fresher stuff out of the vault because once they release that stuff you've been deprived of you aren't going to buy the staler stuff anymore.

The WWE does this with their DVDs as well.  There are a couple of matches that seem to appear on at least one DVD comp every year.  Another match could have been put on in it's place BUT they would rather save that match for later and try to get you to buy what you already have.  Or they mix a few new matches with the old stuff so that you pay full price for what to you is really half a product.

Or how about double-dipping DVDs where they intentionally release a bare-bones DVD first and then two years later release the "real" version?

Tricking people into re-buying stuff has been a staple for the entertainment industry.  It's not so bad if you didn't already own what's being double-dipped but if did you're just sitting their waiting while they wave in your face the same old Malibu Stacy with a new hat.

well all that and there still people who got Zelda Collectors Disk and Four Swords so why bother releaeing Zelda at all?

Some good ponts but still not everyone bought those games the first time around.

Plus your are forgetting the GENESIS STUFF! Thats ten times more improtant than Nintendos stuff cuz thast all gonna come eventually but Sega will run out of stuff to put up faster than Nintendo will.

I meant Nintendo will run out of stuff to put up faster, good or bad Sega has more games from that era than Nintendo does.

O RLY?!?

List of Sega Mega Drive and Sega Genesis games
List of Nintendo Entertainment System games
List of SNES games

I count 671 NES games, 757 SNES games and 785 Genesis games.  Nintendo wins.

Personally I am more excited in seeing what other TGX games are coming out since I never got the chance to play it. In regards to Zelda: LTTP, I will be one of the first to pick it up! Hey I own it for SNES, GBA, and the Zelda Collection but nothing beats being able to fire up a console without having to insert a disk or CD and playing my second favorite game of all time, right behind SMB3.

In regards to the lack of good games, most weeks have had at least one good game worth trying out except for the pathetic week after Christmas.

"well all that and there still people who got Zelda Collectors Disk and Four Swords so why bother releaeing Zelda at all?"

There's nothing wrong with releasing it.  In fact it absolutely should be released.  But there isn't really much point for the VC to specialize in games that have been re-released in the last few years.  Those games should be available on the VC but so should games like Super Metroid or Pilotwings or Super Mario RPG.  It would nice if Nintendo released some games on the VC that have never been re-released.  Games like that are what make the VC concept so exciting.  When the VC was revealed no one thought "All right! I can buy another copy of three level Donkey Kong!!"  They thought about the classics where you either own the original release or nothing.  The hope was that finally all of those great older games that have gone out of print will be available again not that Nintendo can re-release the NES Classics GBA games again.

i'm just saying...a normal work week for somebody at nintendo if they only have one programmer working on VC games....40 hours.  In 40 hours they only port over 1 VC game.  But like I said, If it had to be only one game, it's a good thing it's an "A" list game

This is total BS. I don't care WHAT game it is, releasing only ONE game this week is not acceptable. There's no excuse; absolutely none. It's not even like they're cleaning up the games or adding anything to them. They're basically taking the original game and tacking the emulator to it. No excuse. Nintendo is totally screwing up the potential of the virtual console.

Granted, Zelda: A Link to the Past is a great game, but it's still an OLD game. Does Nintendo REALLY expect the gaming public to go gaga over it like it's 1992???

Be glad that your one-game-week is LTTP, we got Xevious as our only new title last week.

I'd assume the 40 hours to port one VC game were mostly used for testing to make sure the emulator really handles everything correctly and doesn't introduce new bugs.

Sega, it's not the fact that it's old that he's complaining about: it's the fact that there's only ONE game.

The combined libraries of the SNES, NES, N64, TGFX and Sgenesis is easily 2-3,000 games. If Nintendo keeps up the release rate of four per week even (which they haven't lived up to in a while now...) then we'll have around 800 games in 4 years.

Let me rephrase that: the Wii's console life will almost be over and we will still not have scratched the surface of the retro game libraries.

Nintendo badly needs to step up the VC releases, otherwise these retro games will be competing with new VC content and I doubt they'll do very well.

I don't think anybody is complaining about them releasing old games. Duh, that's the point of the virtual console. But I think it's fair to say that nobody--absolutely nobody--expected Nintendo to have the audacity to pull this one game a week crap.

You can call it ignorant all you want, but there's no denying that the VC isn't meeting he expectations even the most die-hard Nintendo apologists had for it.

Well, Nintendo blew their wad.  They just released the best game of all time.  It's all downhill from here.
